Crazy conspiracy stuff running the government.

Tomorrow is the 5th anniversary of the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol.

I’m proud of the work we did on the House January 6th Committee.

January 6th should’ve been the end of a political movement based on a cult of personality, conspiracism, extremism & lies. Instead, it is now in power.

Very important reporting from Politico’s @kyledcheney.bsky.social. More than 300 federal judges have rejected Trump’s “mandatory detention” policy, which locks up people waiting for deportation proceedings. Courts have found it to be “illegal and unconstitutional.”

Hundreds of judges reject Trump’s mandatory detention policy, with no end in sight
Judges have ruled against the administration in more than 1,600 cases.

You can be glad Maduro is no longer in power and still object to the manner in which the U.S. ousted him and be concerned about the lack of a viable plan going forward.
BRENNAN: To be clear, there is no plan for US occupation of this country of nearly 30 million people?

MARCO RUBIO: The president always retains optionality on anything and on all of these matters

Trump just launched a regime change war for oil - something that much of his base claimed to reject through three presidential elections.

Trump ran against regime change wars in three consecutive presidential elections.

In the last 24-36 hours, he commanded the first U.S.-led regime change war in about a decade and a half - if you count U.S. involvement in Libya in 2011 (very different).

Syria wasn’t a U.S.-led regime change war.

The Trump admin has fused the war on terror with the war on drugs to create a framework for justifying its own acts everywhere from Chicago to Caracas.

Remember the helicopter raid on a Chicago apartment building? A key rationale was to go after the Venezuelan TdA.*

Same with Caracas raid.

Stupid conspiracy theories fuel Trump’s movement.
Donald Trump is now reposting videos on Truth Social suggesting that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz had Melissa Hortman assassinated.

This is objectively evil, and calling it out should not be political.

In the Maduro capture operation, the Trump administration relies on Bill Barr’s (discredited) 1989 memo claiming a President can disregard the UN Charter (CNN report).

That is a loaded gun. The legal analysis is utterly flawed.

My assessment just published:

Maduro Capture Operation and the President’s Duty to Faithfully Execute U.N. Charter: Assessment of 1989 OLC Opinion
A decades-old Office of Legal Counsel memorandum claiming the President can disregard the UN Charter does not withstand serious scrutiny.

The Trump admin broke the “rule of law” when it deprived more than 200 men of due process and sent them to the CECOT torture prison in El Salvador. Bari Weiss killed a 60 Minutes segment on it, falsely claiming there was a “genuine debate” over it.

The rule of law is indeed crucial for America.
