Bullshit. Demanding a U.S. President follow our Constitution isn’t “whining.” Maybe Americans no longer care about the Constitution & the rule of law, but without the Constitution & the rule of law, our democracy doesn’t survive. So there ain’t nothing “weak” about fighting for democracy’s survival.

This mysterious process, which our politicians and journalists and consultants simply ignore, but which affects all of us, probably does more to explain politics than every campaign decision of the last 20 years put together. If I was a Democratic bigwig, I might consider investigating it somewhat.

Think about music, fashion, baby names. There are distinct trends that spread nationwide, that people somehow absorb through social osmosis, that appear everywhere all at once. People are obviously interacting with each other – otherwise there’d be no trend at all, just random static.

For all that the media has spent years freaking out about what social media does to our brains, I don’t understand why there appears to be little effort to grapple with the fact that these chatbots are, for some not insignificant portion of the population, literally psychosis machines

I am not trying to let Democrats off the hook here; it’s unreal that they refuse to think about mass consensus formation, and continue to treat public opinion as a product of individual values encountering individual candidate positions. This is clearly not how it works.

Rep. Seth Moulton on CNN: "Is anyone going to just stop for a second & be honest? This is insane. What the hell are we doing? We have a lot of problems in America today & invading occupying and running Venezuela does not solve any of them. This is illegal, unjustifed & not in our national interest."

This is an obvious attempted decapitation strike. We’ll find out tomorrow if it had its intended outcome. Then, of course, comes the unpredictability of what follows.

Madness.
This is potentially significant.

I also love America and believe in its stated values.

And I understand that this pronouncement lands very differently when it comes from an organization that has intentionally been overhauled in order to curry favor with a jingoistic proto-fascist who says his opponents hate the country.
Incredible. CBS Evening News announces five new “simple values” — instead of their “38-page handbook” — as they roll out Tony Dokoupil is lead anchor.

One of those values is simply: “We love America and make no apologies for saying so.”
