New on bluesky, just browsing mostly for now. Sorry about the terrible profile pic
So instead, Kamala was effectively stuck with the Cheney's, who were the most prominent Republicans with the guts to openly support her - even though they're clearly terrible.

But both of them were too craven to openly support the Democratic candidate despite them clearly knowing that Trump would be worse and being openly opposed to him (GWB wrote in Condaleeza Rice in 2020).

If campaigning with "moderate" Republicans could get Kamala to beat Trump, then it's a necessary evil. The "ideal" endorsement here would be Mitt Romney or George W. Bush, who are (unfairly imo) praised as "moderates" in the media and who both dislike Trump.

I'm not exactly happy that Kamala campaigned with the Cheneys, but if you work backwards you can understand why she did it. Mainstream media is obsessed with the idea that Democrats need to reach out to Republicans and there's pressure for the Dem candidate to get endorsements from "the other side".

Beyond the obvious immorality of this (Bill Clinton seemingly calling for genocide), it doesn't even make sense as an argument. It's tautological: "if this problem in the middle east didn't exist, then there would be fewer problems in the middle east."

I don't have anything against Harris, and I also don't think that "running to the left" would have necessarily done her any better. But part of that is that establishment media said that Democrats need to run such and such campaign and then when Kamala ran that campaign, they acted like she wasn't!

It cannot be overemphasized how Harris's campaign shows why these people shouldn't be taken seriously. As soon as she became the nominee, she took every step possible to portray herself as a moderate - even campaigning with the Cheneys.

When he first wrote Lolita, he didn't want people confusing it with a romance novel, hence the "no little girls" instruction. Once the novel became famous, he was more open to putting pictures of girls on the cover because people (in theory) should already know what the book is about.

The claim that Nabokov was a survivor of child sexual abuse is somewhat shaky (it's an interpretation of a chapter of Nabokov's memoir but he never directly claimed to have been sexually abused). But it's true that he absolutely DID NOT write Lolita as a pro-pedophilia book.

Barr's handling of the Mueller Report was masterful and exploited a compromised political media ethos. and then you have this shit.

Honestly I think you could analyze the 2024 election as "Biden fixed the economy and people hated him for it". It's not the only valid reading, but it's not exactly *wrong*

Wasn't Kay Granger literally living in an assisted living facility (and unable to show up for ANYTHING) last year, while she was still legally a sitting federal representative?

What exactly do you think "clout" is in this case, Matt. Why might a member of congress think it's good to have

Didn't he also say that being Jewish is what makes Zemmour have a far-right ideology?

I always arrive on time (2h before for domestic, 3h before for international) and have never had an issue with TSA lines. Are there just a ton of people who don't bother showing up on time and then try to skip the lines? I know these people exist but I cannot wrap my head around the rationale.
December 19, 2025 at 5:06 AM
Maybe I am just really lucky with airports, but I genuinely do not understand what makes people feel the need to skip the lines, let alone to the point of faking a disability.

Yes, the same logic as that
