Prison abolition is just a re-skinned "voting is bad", same mindset. The current system is imperfect and allows bad things to happen so the only possible answer is to burn it all down because that's easier to bullshit about between bong hits to sound smart than coming up with a real solution.
I‘m tired of being nice about this; “abolitionism” has had years to develop a non-idiot policy program and the best they’ve come up with is ”murder without even the pretense of juridical process.” And I am not nut-picking; this is all over abolitionist writing.

Everyone normalizing saying this goes a long way.
Seth Moulton went on MSNBC and straight up said "the president is a pedophile" and refused to walk it back even after the hosts kept trying to equivocate.

House Dems don't give a *fuuuck.*

I honestly understand why the news folks don't want to expose their networks to more groundless lawsuits so I am glad that the Dems are just going out and saying it and daring Trump to sue them for it.

I don’t mean to be glib but this is probably a more damning indictment of American elite culture than the Iraq Invasion.
Every single time! Epstein will write:

"porsecters h4arrsed me w/ sbuopenas al bcuase tr4ificing myners .due porcess much???no"

and then there's, like, the former president of a university or white house counsel or something replying:

"You're totally right, and also I love you with all my heart."

huh, emails don’t rise to the level of being newsworthy? oct 2016 would like a word
The emails that you’re seeing now are news in themselves, but that’s because of how they’re coming out—a congressional committee released them—& the context in which they’re being viewed. A guy emailing a reporter talking about old girlfriends or saying someone is “dirty” is not a whole news story.

“The 15 year-old selling her body for food is a vile temptress and the billionaire who paid her twenty dollars for a blowjob is the tragic victim.”

Many such cases.
As someone who has frequently defended free speech rights of sex workers and sex work advocates, it's completely unsurprising but nevertheless galling to be reminded once again how POWERFUL MEN talk fondly about sex work in private while demonizing it and pushing oppressive laws about it publicly.

It is true that there are many good journalists doing valuable work at places like the NY Times. It's *also* true that there are major systemic issues at these papers, including leadership. You can't fault readers for taking larger institutional problems into account when judging an outlet's work.
What I know is there are still great journalists - even at elite media outlets - who are doing good work. Adopting a knee-jerk cynicism about all they do abandons those journalists. And it's lazy. And it plays into hands of authoritarians who WANT people to distrust all fact-based journalism.
Come on Eric….you know what these means about the Times and a lot of elite media

the republicans only shallowly (but genuinely) disbelieve that trump was closely associated with epstein. reading through the actual documents would be enough to be a problem for that shallow disbelief.
So it's pretty clear that House Rs panicked about the selected emails House Ds released & just let-er-rip without actually going through the whole trove, huh?
The Kremlin disguised a nearly $100 mn payment to Trump in the form of a brokered real estate deal... and both Jeffrey Epstein and William Pulte were involved in the deal. That's very interesting.

what if the victim doesn't want to turn their entire life into an endless series of meetings with a person who has gravely wronged them
a significant portion of the deviance can be remedied with social reproachment, counseling, and restorative justice where offenders work with victims or their advocates to make the victims whole.

there may be a small amount of deviance that can't be prevented or solved non-punitively.
