I am of the opinion that all of Star Trek: Discovery is good, but it is *remarkable* how much better seasons 3-5 are than the first two. If the premise had been “the spore drive accidentally rockets the crew 930 years into the future” from the beginning, I don’t think people would’ve been as mad 1/2

the Democrats are in favor of capitalism (the system of economic exchange under which the world has been operating for centuries), but are not in favor of capitalism (the rich get to do whatever they want, do not pay taxes, and can do unlimited corruption.)

I said the other day that there’s no universe derived from this one where John Fetterman wins a Democratic primary. That’s even more true of Donald Trump. Why do people even say this shit?
dude has moved on to asking why people wouldn't vote for donald trump if he won the democratic primary, I for one am shocked, shocked sam thielman is being a bad faith dipshit

This Presidents Day, we honor the leaders of our nation who have worked tirelessly to uphold our democracy.

The rights of our nation have never been more important or fragile. We must continue to fight for freedom, liberty, and justice for all.

Trump and his cronies out of office and/or in prison. ICE and CBP disbanded or leashed so tightly it might as well be. Federal recognition of LGBTQ+ rights fully restored.
good thread from adam that i think gets at a core question: do we have a theory of victory?
national politics, especially when there doesn't seem to be a theory of victory. you can see the negative effects of constantly being an state of arousal here on this platform, in many respects. this is not warhammer 40k, where people can indefinitely exist in a "long war" against chaos.

Now! On to non political matters, specifically more Starfleet Academy talk! I *despise* Nus Braka, but I love Paul Giammati’s performance. It’s been a minute since I wanted to see a Trek villain get his ass stomped this badly.

So the entire idea that thuh shitlibs are all foaming at the mouth to line up behind Gavin Newsom is a mirage generated by his press secretary being briefly notorious for trolling Trump online and being reshared in normie spaces because they thought it was funny, yes? Are we in agreement there?

Six episodes in, I think it’s fair to say I like every Starfleet Academy character *except* Caleb Mir. He is the season one Wesley Crusher of this show, and his edgy online leftist takes on the Federation bug the shit out of me. Maybe he’ll grow on me! Wesley did! But for now? Blech.

What the fuck is “ceremonial cacao” in this context? Are they talking about Valentine’s chocolate? 🤨 Also despite some people’s best efforts we live in a multicultural democracy. Anybody can practice anything if they treat it with respect. Nobody’s practices should be dictated by their ancestors.
I can assure you that you do not in fact want that.

Your vote is not a favor for a politician. It is you participating in a process of choosing governance & who will wield power. Treating it like something you have to be coaxed to do rather than a civic obligation you have is just fucking gross and solipsistic.

The one thing you can do to assure you'll never receive my vote in a Democratic primary is cozy up to shithead racists. Saying you relate to the struggle of an anti-immigration protester who works for the German AfD now and inviting Steve Bannon onto your podcast for a friendly chat both qualify.

The way I interpreted it was that for a long time post-Burn, the war college was the only part of Starfleet Academy that still existed. They didn’t have the resources to do much more than fight pirates and try to hold on to their remaining members. Still weird they didn’t fold the War College (1/2)
Unlike TOS, the TOS movies, or even TNG and DS9, apparently the writers of Starfleet Academy have so little experience with the military that they think Starfleet War College would be a rival undergraduate program to the Academy
It looks like they are doing it stupidly as a rival school though which is very very dumb

Culture is the most important thing about society, it's absurd that more people don't recognize this. Emphasizing class above all else is the faux-progressive way of saying "once I get mine, you're on your own".

The rational, adult part of my brain: Man, the ol’ paycheck’s gonna be light next week.
The other 90 percent of me (chanting, clapping, pounding the table, knocking back shots): SIX DAYS OFF! SIX DAYS OFF! SIX DAYS OFF! SIX DAYS OFF!

You are unattached and can date one choice each from the following categories.

Whom do you pick?

1) A Marvel mutant

2) A Tolkien character

3) A Justice Leaguer

4) A Star Trek Character

One choice for each category, GO!

my normie lib dad view is an election literally transfers power, and it’s good to take/keep power away from fascism, say with a popular front, and yeah that implies eventually voting for the larger opposition party’s nominees after organizing for people you prefer

Which Spider-Man, though? Parker? Morales? Stacey? God forbid, Octavius? They’d all have very different policy platforms and that would impact my vote. 🧐 😜
Every primary poll so far is like 90% “who have you even heard of?“ If you put Spider-Man as an option, he‘d blow everyone else out of the water cuz voters would be like “Hey, I know who that is!”

I think that a lot of rural MAGA is that a mix of outside forces/their own actions and culture chased the well-adjusted kids away, and they want someone to force them back.
This is so spot on
