This is my best friend's very conservative uncle. He has commented on nearly every political Facebook post my buddy has made over the past decade.

I have _never_ seen him do something like this. He's always been a typical Trumper.

I hate that this post is true
snapchat being the biggest success in safety standards is funny when you consider how horrifying the service is at first glance, yet they were an early success and continue to be mostly because they've always been engaged with the problem

it is one of my go-to points - connected to their widespread use of firearms and dire lack of training - that while police have problems everywhere, U.S. police are unusually brutal and incompetent by developed country standards.

that really is all of the story. a colleague (Westerner) had adopted a dog, but hadn't taken him to be registered yet. a group of chengguan (urban militia, shitty cops basically), visibly drunk, saw him, demanded to see the dogs paperwork, and then beat the dog to death while they grappled him

the chengguan beat the dog of a colleague to death on the street in Beijing for no reason other than sadism

What's so wild about this particular Bluesky Mass Delusion is that it's one of the best examples of how a highly engaged audience can be *completely and utterly misled* by just a *handful* of influential propagandists, many of whom take great pleasure in lying openly about liberals for clout.
The idea that Democrats stopped calling Trump and Vance weird is itself the weirdest mass delusion on this website. They were calling them weird all the way to election day, and yet a cultlike belief has nevertheless spawned insisting that they did it for like a week then stopped.
Remember in the summer of 2024 when Dems started calling Trump/Vance/et al "weird" and it resonated with millions of people (because it's true) and then they stopped?

Seeing a similar shift now. But angrier. Good. Take off the fucking gloves.

I am begging allegedly serious posters on here with academic credentials and a track record of trustworthiness to both read past the goddamn headline and be able and willing to call out a headline that's doing rhetorical work for the enemy instead of jumping on it dick-first to cosign that work
I am begging Democratic leadership to recognize that funding and legitimizing your authoritarian opponent’s secret police is a bad idea.

This should not be a difficult concept.

this is a key part of why voting is a sacred duty to me and why i'm -this- furious that people think they can decide that voting doesn't matter, tbh
in addition to the many reasons i gave people why voting matters is that when we vote we do not just vote for america. we vote for our Allies. we vote for people in other countries who want to breathe free. we never have voted for just us. it should be clear by now voting is a Butterfly Effect.

like, the current ongoing Constitutional crisis in America is the result of a fairly highly technocratic system entering a failure mode! we've had pretty severe failure modes before and scraped ourselves out of them! American technocracy has been a model to the entire world for centuries!

the single most important thing social media has taught me is that if our lives collectively ever relied on passing the marshmallow test as a society we would all, immediately and without any fanfare whatsoever, perish

this does not make me feel great, honestly

do I have to point out why a return of lynch law would be bad in the US, even if it seems like it would be satisfying just this one time?

it's 2026, and I suppose I must. because it will immediately be used by the dominant demographic group -- let's call it "whitey" -- to terrorize everyone else.

Trumps refusal to be president of the entire country being part of what undermines his economic response, thus making the midterms worse for him than they would be otherwise is such an incredible bit of irony
I kind of think the most revealing thing about Trump and his advisors’ view of the economy are the (false) “it’s fine, the economy is doing well in red states” lines from the CEA report that he posted on Truth Social

Okay look, I'm not saying I deserve credit

But all this Wide-Awakes stuff, it turns out, has actually been extremely powerful talismanic practice, and I have been unknowingly constructing a powerful mandala in the dharma-field of politics, and now we got Tim Walz talking about the Civil War
Gov. Tim Walz references the 1st Minnesota regiment, credited with saving the Union at Gettysburg: “I think now we may be in that moment, that the nation's looking to us, to hold the line on democracy, to hold the line on decency, to hold the line on accountability...” youtube.com/shorts/DZXdZ...
