"misstep" implies Fuckerberg didn't know what he was doing and. the judge should just assume they did record and confiscate the spyware glasses. come on. that is the only reason they exist.
"The judge upbraided the Meta team and said if you guys have recorded anything, you have to dispose of it or I will hold you in contempt," Jacob Ward, a technology journalist and the host of the Rip Current Podcast, told CBS News, calling the incident "an extraordinary misstep" by Meta.
Judge scolds Mark Zuckerberg's team for wearing Meta glasses to social media trial
A Los Angeles judge ordered Meta officials to remove their AI glasses at a trial over the impact of social media on users.

To be fair Brazil and South Korea cracked down on Yoon and Bolsonaro *precisely because* they have been dictatorships in living memory, and the UK monarchy let itself be investigated like this *because* other monarchies collapsed. Assuming your institutions are unimpregnable per se... not so smart

The goons manning the camps are also initially queasy about shooting the prisoners in the head or shoving them into a gas chamber. To get from concentration camps to death camps you have to ease the goons up a brutality ladder that starts with more indirect reasons for the prisoners dying.
I've been saying it a lot, but these deaths line up with what happened in early concentration camps during other regimes: Deaths from poor conditions, disease, or abuse. These deaths are not accidental. They are the direct result of a camp system that is designed to harm those being imprisoned.
I received notification of yet another death at an ICE facility, meaning 38 people have died in custody since Trump returned to office.

ICE is failing to ensure the health and safety of the people it is responsible for.

We need immediate oversight of this entire operation.

get away from the crazy for a bit this is a terrific bit of writing❣️

... delight of the work is in the way it teeters on the edge of turning into abstract blobs even as it retains its clarity and vividness; you feel like you are watching Morisot conjure people, washing, and labor before your eyes.
wrote about Berthe Morisot and how the impressionists thought about labor and manly empowerment. (and how we still do, to some degree.) www.everythingishorrible.net/p/berthe-mor...

we for real need to be talking about the decadence problem

the issue is people (not dov) think it means orgies and feasts but what decadence really looks like is people getting so bored of peace, prosperity and health that they let their kids spread measles just to feel something
i'll be frank: i think decadence is a real problem and our society is suffering from it at an industrial pace

Plenty of reason to abolish CBP entirely, but let's add to the list "facilitating trafficking of minors for sex."
"We Brooklyn Boys stick together," one CBP supervisor texted Epstein.

"Atta boy", Epstein responded.

In November 2016, Epstein texted the supervisor that another CBP officer had been “nasty”. “I will speak to him!” the supervisor responded. “I will handle it, formally.”
Revealed: Epstein cultivated relationship with CBP officer, causing US investigation
Guardian review of US justice department files reveals Epstein interacted with six CBP officers. The officer investigated denied any knowledge of trafficking underage girls

I'm a teacher, so I was on the list to receive the first wave of free vaccines. Drove to Oakland Colisseum, saw the National Guard directing traffic so literally THOUSANDS of people could get vaccinated. For one brief moment it restored my faith in this country and our ability to solve problems.
I have seen this claim several times on here and it is abject fucking madness. bordering on antivax sentiment

And then the Supreme Court fucked it all up, and people had violent, childish reactions to being asked to make the tiniest possible sacrifice to avoid mass death, and we were back to the classic American ethos of "no fuck you I don't have to help you. you're on your own."

February 19—not a great day in American history!
On this day in 1923, the U.S. Supreme Court *unanimously* decided that people of South Asian descent could not be American citizens, and retroactively stripped citizenship from many who had already been naturalized. Years of organized persecution followed. www.saada.org/explore/publ...
