New school year about to start, so a new thread for the alphabetical order commute playlist. This morning's drive started with "Dumb All Over" (Zappa) and ended with 4 songs titled "Dust" (Monks of Doom, Parquet Courts, 13th Floor Elevators, Elvis Costello).

“Rather than taking over the Democratic Party the same way the right took over the Republican Party, we should take the easier route and just start up a new party ourselves!”

I’m about to fill my pockets with stones and walk into the sea.

You didn't get a vote. You got a "promise" of a vote. From a party who is disappearing nannies & gardeners and zip-tying children. A party who has flushed Due Process in America down the toilet. Who has subjugated its Congressional duties to an autocrat. That's what everybody sees, Tim.

Dems to GOP: "So if I give you all my credit card numbers and bank info, you'll send me a bunch of money from a Nigerian Prince? That sounds like a perfect deal! Thank you!"

Reminder that the last time Schumer had a serious primary challenger it was Geraldine Fucking Ferraro in 1998.

For 27 years he has been encouraged to do weak shit like this while the world crumbles around him.

Vote in primaries people. Every year. And push pols you like to run for higher office.
If Schumer votes AGAINST this but enough Ds vote FOR it that it passes, he needs to RESIGN immediately.

He will have shown himself to be absolutely ineffective as a minority leader. He has to go.

Literally resign tonight.

Right, the answer isn't to abandon the party to these weasels.

The answer is to flood the party with people who will take it over and transform it.
Hey, a lot of people are talking about changing affiliation from Democratic to Independent.

Let me tell you why you shouldn’t do that in Colorado.

One of the main ways to get a primary challenge candidate on a ballot is to caucus for your party. You need to be registered as a Dem to caucus.

My entire life Republicans’ game has been to stymy, undercut & undermine when Democrats have power so they can point to the resulting failings as evidence progressive policies are dysfunctional & then they get power & aggressively gut every social gain & Dems are still like ‘maybe we can negotiate’

all of the calls for "moderating on trans issues" are just an excuse to launder the author's own bigotry into the political sphere

do the right thing and tell them to go to hell, support trans rights

what this means politically is that there is simply not a big cost to doing the right thing and standing up for trans people

if you run a campaign based on affordability while supporting trans rights and your opponent runs a campaign based on transphobia, voters will prefer yours

Monday was the anniversary of the night I met Steve. Tonight I'm going out with 3 buddies to the same restaurant where we had his last birthday dinner together. Food & wine & laughter & tears.

I hope all of you can find moments of joy in the midst of all of this. That's how we can get through it.

I think a lot about comfort and curiosity - how if you are truly curious, you must accept that you will eventually be uncomfortable, by challenging preconceptions, misconceptions and through the process of learning itself. Understanding something is messy - it takes time and thinking to stick.
