Could someone explain to me what is meant when a British person refers to "the middle class" ? Like, in the US, as I hear it, it basically just means a person who makes a certain amount of money, not too far below and not wildly above the median. Seems like a complex concept when UK writers use it?

The problem from their point of view is that rapid decarbonization requires public, collective decisions about the organization of production, in a way that threaten capital-owners' authority over both the production process and the political system.

i'm not gonna lie lads i find it hard to take this notion seriously. you all seem to think it's really illustrative but i think, subjectively, that it's just whiny
I do in fact live with a person who doesn't eat the same stuff as I do, we have actually quite distinctive tastes, and all we do is basically just work around the issues because the notion of breaking up over that is silly.

some British Politics Knowers relish just a bit too much the fact that politics is often dirty, dishonest, untransparent and closed, which are bad things that they don't necessarily have to be

i'll grant you this makes me a particularly orthodox kind of pro-multiculturalism proselytiser, in that i can't take objections of that ilk particularly seriously even as a point to engage with
As a child of multiple generations of religions and ethnicities marrying despite generally accepted bans I think even abstract reservations about it kind of aren't valid.

i dont even like being involved in those groups. i didn't particularly like being in the YSI. but notably, i actually, voluntarily, went to things it organised, and i /did not/ go to things my branch at the time organised until i hit like 24
The reality is actually that identity politics works. Our conference has motions about issues relevant to young people, students, and queer people because their respective affiliates prepare them. If they didn't, no one would, because no one does.

the one good thing, the /one/ good thing (i did not stutter, do not argue with me) that came out of the soviet occupation of lithuania is that the notion of people being against interfaith marriage is absolutely bizarre to me and probably most people of my background.
