It seems like my last introductory pinned post disappeared, so: I’m a full professor of physics, specifically theoretical optics, who also like horror fiction, guitar, RPGs, videogames, and cats. Written a couple pf popular science books. Spends more time than is healthy worrying about politics.

I do wonder if a little of both are true - the oil industry really isn’t interested but the administration is so ignorant and stupid that they thought this would be a great deal for oil companies and partly convinced themselves that that was a justification
The amount of “this is clearly about oil” posting across all platforms as story after story comes out where the oil industry is saying that the oil isn’t worth extracting is making me feel a little insane
