Pope Leo has the deepest love for Latin America, where he spent many years in ministry. Now, a US President a Pope who has dual citizenship (US and Peru) and a military incursion in Venezuela. At Sunday’s Angelus, Pope Leo will have his first opportunity to speak out against the actions of the US.

To be clear, Pope Leo has warned the US on 3 separate occasions against the invasion of Venezuela, and urged “dialogue” instead and further stating: “With violence, we do not win.”

In today’s Feast of the Holy Family, we read of Jesus, Mary and Joseph fleeing the murderous designs of an evil king and journeying to Egypt, a traditional refugee for Jewish people of the time, as Joan Taylor points out in her book “Boy Jesus.”
