someone the other day tried to tell me that I'm obviously a millionaire

from a bird cartoon
Just saw someone claim that authors who want to be paid for their work are "class traitors" because we "only let the wealthy" read our books, and I think I need to go into the woods to scream into the night for a bit.

It's $5, not your first-born child! I need that $5 for health insurance!

As you’re preparing for your Thanksgiving meal, remember the skilled work it took to get that food to your grocery store.

Tell us your favorite Thanksgiving dish, and we can share some of what we know about the work behind the ingredients.

So I got to attend a Q&A with Tom Morello (guitar legend of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE fame), and from him I heard a very smart creative lesson, applicable to more than just musicians -- thought I'd share it, and some further thoughts and stories here:
A Very Good Piece Of Creative Advice From Tom Morello
As a cantankerous alt-rock grunge-loving teenager, I was not particularly a Rage Against the Machine guy — I mean, I liked the music but it didn’t connect with me, and my theory now as …

I was telling friends about this the other day. I am so fricking close to losing it the next time someone second guesses something I say. It's come from students, staff and faculty this semester and I am just so fricking tired. One was a white guy telling me I was wrong about a DEI issue!
Violent communication includes contradicting, second-guessing, and assuming that a person either doesn't know what they're talking about or don't mean what they say.

Yeah, one of the real flaws with Bluesky is that if you make a post whose message is basically "hey, do the losers at this place still have a stick up their ass about my machine that steals their writing?" it attracts negative responses.

It's a weird glitch, and it's certainly not *your* fault.

Lots of people sharing this clip because it's funny and cathartic but I also genuinely believe it's important.
