Just a reminder: The tenth anniversary editions of the original Southern Reach trilogy are still out in the wild, selling well. NYT bestsellers and on a lot of best-of-decade or this century lists. With new intros by Karen Joy Fowler, NK Jemisin, and Helen MacDonald. Buy from you favorite indie.
three pudu species not two pudus. who woulda thunk it. i was always taught two pudus good, three pudus extravagant. But our education back then was more expansive in including pudus at all.

2nd time with this book. Got a lot more out of it this time - helps that I have read Borne and The Strange Bird. Experimental narrative, inner voices veering toward insanity, heartbreaking devotion, terrifying creations and creators, and enduring love. Thank you, @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social

I just read the entire Southern Reach trilogy by Jeff Vandermeer including #4 Absolution; I'd read them before but never boom boom boom one after the other like that. My head may fall off, but I loved it.

Coyote Creek Solar Project in Sacramento County has been canceled. This was very poor site selection, w the company claiming it was bare ground, when, according to locals, it was largely great habitat with lots of trees and environmentally important. Some solar projects are stupid, believe it or not

As someone who once (rightly) castigated an author for writing scenes in a dry well without ever going into a dry well... i now feel an urgent need to crawl around in underground crevices with the ceiling just a foot from my face.

The Major had appeared in the space btwn horizon and a blinding light to take control, sent by the horizontalists at Central. By then, there was already the legend of the sublimination of his eye by Area X, and how he’d contained it. Which meant sometimes he was his own sunset staring out at them.

I understand ecotourism, but it's time for a massive reduction in the number of whale watching tours in the Salish Sea and US coming in line with tougher Canadian regulations. Can you imagjne a whale having to encounter the noise and bother of seven or more boats in a day?

Research shows coyotes in some areas look both ways before crossing roads and show traffic awareness. Between that and owner willingness to sacrifice their cats by leaving them outside (coyote cattle) so coyotes have free meals for their children, no wonder they do so well in sub/urban locales.

"Creators" coming up with AI writing prompts are now complaining other sloppers are stealing *their* prompts. Irony, but, dipshits, a prompt aint nothing. I shed fifty prompts before breakfast. Prompt this, ya jerks.
