An intro: I'm a poet and performer; a lot of my actual work is visiting schools, colleges, etc. to use art as a doorway into dialogue—about power, agency, counter-narrative masculinity, and beyond.

Times are tough, and some of my paid subscribers have had to cancel lately due to financial hardships. I get it, and I wish for better times for us all. Unfortunately, paid subscriptions are now dipping into unsustainable territory. I am hoping to get eight new paid subscribers before the new year.

I keep thinking about the new Knives Out: Wake Up, Dead Man. (potential spoilers)

There's so much in it about faith and what creates loyalty and meaning. But as a disabled person, the thread of the wheelchair user seeking healing had me bracing myself.

Hey friends, a neighbor of mine is having trouble paying the family’s rent because she hasn’t been working due to ICE’s terror regime in Minneapolis these past weeks. If anyone has some extra cash to throw her way, I’m taking up a low-key collection.

Beyond my writing, I pulled together a list of a dozen or so favorite poems from other voices that also address issues related to movement, borders, and abolishing ICE: guante.info/2025/12/12/noborders/

No list is comprehensive, but there are some good ones here, and probably ones you haven't seen.
"When the discourse of the powerful is evil on one side and indifference on the other, let your heart be a whistle."

In this spirit: a bunch of powerful poems that have specific actual things to say about immigrant justice, the movement of people, and abolishing ICE: guante.info/noborders
Affirmations for poets, songwriters, artists:

The notion that political art is less effective when it’s more direct is deeply ahistorical.

Some artists are more concerned about being called "preachy" than they are about this fascist crisis.

Art won't be enough to win, but we won't win without it.

We are parents of a trans kid and our family takes this very, very personally. If you intentionally make life harder for our beloved daughter, it’s EXTREMELY hard to think of you as an ally, to say the least. @amyklobuchar.com - you still send us requests for money, while hurting our kid. Disgusted.
Here are the 28 Dem Senators who voted to advance the first federal ban on trans athletes & a federal definition of sex that would make trans & intersex people non-existent: Angela Alsobrooks (MD), Tammy Baldwin (WI), Richard Blumenthal (CT), Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE), Chris Coons (DE), ->
By a vote of 76-23, S 1071 passes the motion to proceed to the motion to concur. Won't know who voted for this until the roll call is uploaded, but safe to say it passed with the support of at least 24 members of the Democratic caucus. (Rand Paul probably voted nay and Steve Daines has been absent).

"It can feel like ICE are everywhere. That, presumably, is how they want it to feel. At the same time, more and more people who have never engaged in anything like these actions before are purposefully running toward the trouble."

Incredible writing that foregrounds people-powered resistance:
ICE and CBP, among others, have violently retaliated against ICE Watch in part because the agencies correctly understand what many do not: Organized neighbors are mounting an effective defense, and an organized movement is a formidable adversary. My new feature: newrepublic.com/article/2042...
Inside Chicago’s Neighborhood ICE Resistance
Residents have organized a formidable network to protect immigrant communities from Trump’s brutal deportation program. Their efforts are making a genuine difference.

Creating a thread of egregious ICE actions in the Twin Cities over the last 12 days.

For those who aren't plugged into what's going on - it can feel remote and "not so bad."

Likewise for folks far away. So this collection of stories and links aims to share a small part of the story.
