I’m asking everyone to vote for a new Mayor by Tuesday and rank all 3 of Omar Fateh, Dewayne Davis, and Jazz Hampton in whichever order you prefer. I’ve worked at City Hall for the last 4 years and from my personal experiences I believe the City desperately needs a new mayor.

Long thread 🧵

Community observers are keeping community safe. It’s not a crime to legally observe the abuses and inhumane tactics committed by ICE. The real crimes are being committed by the federal government, which are tearing families apart. In addition to their rampant racial profiling and discrimination. 1/

He should support making MN a sanctuary state, bring back healthcare for undocumented adults, put investment into immigrant-owned businesses, enact an eviction moratorium bc our immigrant neighbors are struggling with rent, & increase rental assistance. I doubt anything happens though.

About a half-hour ago, ICE kidnapped a man from the CVS by my house. His pregnant partner was in the car waiting for him. A dozen responders showed up, but we were too late to help

Immigrant owned businesses on Central literally have their doors locked and are having to let people in individually because of all the ICE activity in the neighborhood this morning. Please go to Central Ave and support your neighbors today by giving them business and being out in community.

MPD assisted ICE with escorting their vehicles. One of the vehicles had a pregnant woman detained. The woman was forced out of the vehicle and was never shown a judicial warrant. MPD ENABLED A KIDNAPPING when they assisted ICE on 12/15 at 29th and Pillsbury.
MPD said in a statement that they responded to an “officer needs help” call, but confirmed that no one was being assaulted & that no life-safety conditions warranted further officer involvement.

Why did MPD assist in kidnapping our neighbors with controlling the space? This was just one example.

Disheartening to see federal agents take two neighbors on 29th & Pillsbury. Chemical irritants were used on observers by them.

MPD showed up on scene, created a pathway for these federal agents to kidnap our neighbors, and assisted with controlling the space. Disappointing and heartbreaking.

If you’re a candidate for anything and I don’t see or hear you standing up for our immigrant neighbors, you’re not getting my vote or my money. You can be public about the parts that won’t put anyone at risk. Take notes from @zaynabmmohamed.bsky.social @jchavezmpls.bsky.social @bradtabke.bsky.social

The final vote of the term for City Council was a resolution against using less lethal weapons for crowd control and supporting discipline in the police contract or discipline matrix if police officers violate the separation ordinance. Palmisano, Jenkins, & Vetaw voted no (Rainville was absent)

Do you support ICE kidnapping our residents here in Minneapolis? All I’ve seen you do is vote for the Laken Riley Act and strip away due process from immigrants.

You didn’t stick up for Minnesotans. In fact, your vote is impacting our Somali and immigrant communities heavily.
I’ve got news for you, Mr. President: in Minnesota, we stick up for our neighbors. And our Somali community isn’t going anywhere.

Your dangerous attacks on immigrants in my state and across the country are putting lives and families at risk.

We are asking you all to be safe. To support your immigrant neighbors who are fearful. To alert communities when you witness suspicious behavior.

We are not your adversary
We are your police

Warped stuff from the St. Paul Police Federation. The officer’s actions were well documented. This posture is the opposite of helpful.

In case you’re wondering how St Paul Police could ever treat their own residents like they did yesterday look at this unhinged statement from who the officers elect as their leaders.

The police chief says here that they have a responsibility to make sure laws aren’t being broken in the City. Well ICE does not operate lawfully, and your own police tear gassing journalists and citizens isn’t lawful either so you’re already failing at that responsibility.
St. Paul leaders face mounting questions about why police officers were on the scene — and why force was used — despite repeated assurances that the department would not participate in federal immigration actions.

There’s such a disconnect in the formulaic way Politicians make statements and respond to critical incidents. “Raises questions” “monitoring” “we need answers”

There’s video and we all saw what happened. We don’t need to review and we don’t need answers. We just need leaders to take action.
St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter said he has seen videos circulating online, including footage of a woman being blasted in the face with a chemical irritant at point-blank range.

Carter said the incident raises questions about whether the city’s values of de-escalation and minimal force “were upheld.”

Watching SPPD today really shows that if we’re going to get through we need our leaders to have zero tolerance with our police on this shit. If you lack the morality that should make it abundantly clear that you shouldn’t be on the side of ICE in this moment then you’re gone immediately full stop.
This was disgusting

All Trump wants is to make us think some people don’t have the same humanity as others. The Frey campaign and All of MPLS spent millions of dollars spreading Islamophobia for the last year doing Trump’s dirty work for him and set this up perfectly. They should be ashamed but I’m sure they don’t care
I am a citizen and so are majority of Somalis in America. Good luck celebrating a policy change that really doesn’t have much impact on the Somalis you love to hate. We are here to stay 💁🏽‍♀️
