I worked in the weeds of health policy during the Obamacare wars. So many brilliant, compassionate people spend their lives trying to fix the anguish racket that is American healthcare! They are geniuses and heroes. And then there’s this guy, farting nonsense out of his mouth
Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

Once I read a memoir by a guy who desperately wanted to be an air traffic controller but couldn’t make it. The job is unspeakably difficult, undercompensated, and terrifying
Trump on air traffic controllers: "A lot of people want the job. I was not happy when I saw all these people -- look, life is not so easy for anybody. Our country has never done better. We should not have had people leaving their jobs."

I will not support this bill that completely fails to help Americans afford their health care.

Would love to know what other gorgeous spaces of public knowledge-making people have been in and loved, and that mean something to them. For the exact reasons noted above these are all spaces that are now being marked for extermination.

I wrote a significant chunk of my first book at a Chicago Public Library, an amazing public space where people could read books and newspapers, access the internet, or just keep warm for a while on a cold day. This is appalling.
CPL is an absolute palace to the people and these proposed cuts are abominable. Artificial austerity. Chicago folks, read this, check the links to bug the mayor and your alders—this can be fought and won.

I’m just a lowly public health professor so what do I know, but I would call starvation irreparably harmful.
The Trump administration tells the Supreme Court it can’t be compelled to fully fund SNAP because paying out the money would “irreparably harm” the government, while SNAP beneficiaries … *won’t* be irreparably harmed by going hungry? The balance of equities here is completely upside down.
