Hoping with all my heart that Mamdani will prove with time that he deserves this trust. After how badly Pritzker failed and what we went through here the last couple months... I don't have a lot of patience for playing politics. Trump is a fascist murderer and nobody should ever shake his hand.
a significant reason Mamdani can get away with this and other Dems can’t is less that he’s charmed Trump and more that he’s charmed you, dear reader, which is why you’re not yelling at him for being a collaborator or an appeaser right now
Like politicians in the US, world leaders are caught in a constant cycle of playing nice with Trump to avoid disaster, and then finding that the disaster comes anyway. Someone like Takaichi may be aligned with him ideologically, but he's never hesitated to betray a friend for a richer, stronger one.
In today's Japan Daily Briefing, Tokyo is watching after Xi raised the question of Taiwan in a call with Trump, scrutiny of Hayashi Yoshimasa’s campaign finance records is growing, and the Takaichi government identifies priority sectors for industrial policy. open.substack.com/pub/observin...

Netanyahu and Trump can't be trusted.

Throughout this so-called “ceasefire,” Netanyahu has continued to bomb Gaza and is still restricting the flow of humanitarian aid.

A depraved and decadent Trump WH dinner for MBS was a stunning low for an American ruling class that's stopped pretending to carry a moral compass

It was really a celebration of death - of democracy, of an overheating planet, and ultimately themselves. My new column www.inquirer.com/opinion/ceos...

One of the things that bothers me about the whole "Mamdani changed Trump's mind" talk, besides being naive, it's more acceptance of this imperial politics - like, this man just *is* in charge forever so we have to manipulate him to get what we want. No, he could be kicked out of office tomorrow!!

we gotta keep hammering over and over again just how fucking unpopular this guy is with every institution and every person in a position of power

people hate him and people will hate you for capitulating to him
Enten: "This is probably the worst 10 day period for the president in the polls his entire second term. The numbers are just atrocious ... when your best poll has you 14 points underwater, you know it's truly bad and it's as bad as 26 points underwater ... -43 with independents! They despise him."

"Trump has no real beliefs" is provably false. We've been hearing for a decade that he just loves power and fame and the right people could charm him into being good. No. He's a racist and a sexist to the core and those beliefs are what motivates him in everything he does.

They are literally firing all the judges they think might grant relief. They just fired a friend of mine a couple hours ago. They have no shame. The bastards want an assembly line for deportations and nothing more; rubber-stamping bootlickers who’ll yes’sir at every new diktat to deny.
Instead of hiring more immigration judges, the Department of Justice just posted an ad for "deportation judges." join.justice.gov

I've been thinking about this a lot lately with MTG: a key part of Trump's strategy has always been to say the right thing sometimes. Like on the Iraq War, he will say something true and surprisingly left-wing to earn credibility, drive wedges, confuse people. It's essential to the way he works!
He did fine. But this Trump-whispering stuff? It’s not a thing. It’s how you trivialize and deflate opposition that is becoming more powerful than you expected.

Also: I think most bullies have an instinct for when the person they want to pick on is too popular for them to go at without getting blowback, and they know how to miraculously become charming when that fits their preferred narrative. If you've never seen this, it's confusing! Do not be fooled!
Honestly, when I heard about this meeting, I thought Trump was going to have him killed, and this hasn't exactly dialed down my suspicions

One reason the fascism / anti-democracy charges might not be as sticky as we’d like is that Democrats who correctly make this case, with rare exceptions, don’t follow up with impeachment and demands for prosecution + truth and reconciliation.

No wonder some voters think they don’t mean it.
