I spoke with cherished friend @amityf.bsky.social last night and she mentioned that I should have a patreon. I asked, "how do you not know I've had a patreon for many years?"

I'm bad at promoting the patreon. Don't make me mention it again. Freedom isn't free and neither is Wedge LIVE.

All local TV stories about federal activity must conclude with a statement written by a Trump official from another planet contradicting any of the well-documented information presented earlier in the story.

I don't really object to the content of the story, but I doubt that engaging with such an obviously made up claim convinces anyone. And maybe reinforces that it's actually a serious debate.

There's a generation of Minneapolitans who've been so deeply traumatized over nearly a decade that this is all they see when a story about "paid protesters" comes across their screen.
February 10, 2026 at 4:59 AM
WCCO investigates: "Are Minneapolis protesters paid, like the Trump administration says?"

"Nobody we talked with says they're paid. And critics will say, 'of course they won't admit it.'"

The importance of $1 million in funding for immigration legal services approved by the Minneapolis City Council last week:
“If you don’t have an attorney, 80% of cases in MN end in deportation. If you do have an attorney, 26% of cases end in deportation"

How the ICE operation in Minnesota is affecting medical care and mental health
Despite the announcement of a drawdown in federal immigration enforcement agents in Minnesota, tensions remain high in the Twin Cities. Some communities say they've seen little change in the numbers…

Thank you to members of the Minneapolis Volunteer Public Works Department. We know you got into this to look cool and meet women, but you're actually making a real difference in people's lives.
Today we cleared the NW corner of 28th and Lyndale (plus bus stop), which required that plus pick axe and took three people two hours (a lot of stuff can be done much more easily/quickly!).

What the big national outlets are missing about this moment: lip syncing in jean shorts was clearly intended as a derogatory reference to our mayor.

WCCO insulting the entire trash barricade operator profession by giving it the cutesy name "pop up blockade."

If there are guys wearing electrical worker costumes over the top of their tactical gear, it might be federal agents in disguise, staking out your local Mexican restaurant to see if anyone there doesn't look American enough.

Trump DHS claims 1360 deportable individuals subject to ICE detainers in MN prisons and jails. Real number is closer to 300. This bogus inflated number is why they say they're here. They can go home now.
ICE detainer numbers in Minnesota don't add up: Surge fact check
Questions are being raised about the accuracy of deportable criminal numbers in Minnesota as federal and local figures don't match up.

Because context is everything, a "flags of the Americas" display accompanied by a "love over hate" message packs an emotional punch. Unremarkable to generations of elementary schoolers. But in 2026, it's either rage-inducing or liable to make the adults cry.

I’ve been wandering solo with an ice chopper, but have recently met up with friends with more tools. The crowbar + hammer was key to clearing the SE corner of 22nd and Lyndale a few days ago.

We salute members of the Minneapolis Volunteer Public Works Department for making Lyndale Avenue sidewalks a little safer.
Bopping in to say that clearing ice from corners and bus stops is excellent community care and also good for getting out some kind of energy and connecting with strangers.

You can tell a real professional is involved in operating this trash barricade because they froze the dumpster wheel into an ice sheet.

Ok I got a reply after posting this. I apologize for my bullying. Even though it was very effective, that's not a nice way to treat your guests. Emails frequently get lost in the shuffle. Look for Anders Folk on a future episode of the Wedge LIVE podcast.

What profiles in big national outlets aren't capturing is the irony of Frey basking in the glow of resistance put up by people who hate his guts. Can't wait for the irony of him accepting the Nobel peace prize on behalf of his haters.

Politically ignorant person: "why isn't he on the streets with the people?"

Me, a seasoned observer: "you realize Jacob Frey can't be among the kind of local heroes who take to the streets against a lawless brutal police agency without getting booed mercilessly?"

It's not really that hard though. Face visible, no soldier gear, and brave to travel alone, without the rest of my platoon, on the mean streets of Minneapolis. That's usually enough to signal safe white guy.
