I spoke with cherished friend @amityf.bsky.social last night and she mentioned that I should have a patreon. I asked, "how do you not know I've had a patreon for many years?"

I'm bad at promoting the patreon. Don't make me mention it again. Freedom isn't free and neither is Wedge LIVE.

Elizabeth Shaffer is from the old school that says: don't attempt to address the problem, let it be as dangerous as possible, eventually they'll learn.
also i told jamal osman on election night that elizabeth shaffer had won and he told me a story about asking for safe needle disposal in a park and shaffer saying no because it will "encourage drug use." he was just like "it'll encourage kids not stepping on needles!"

GOOD LUCK TO US ALL

In the case of Vetaw v Palmisano v Jazz, I will lay down my life for Jazz harder than Mike Norton did this year.
If anyone thinks he’s not running for mayor in 2029 they aren’t paying attention. But honestly, if Vetaw & Palmisano are in the mayor bumper cars then, our pragmatic asses better hope Jazz is in there somewhere.

Data shows that if team Frey had really wanted to hurt Chughtai they needed to endorse Chughtai.
Here's another view of the final-round 2025 Minneapolis mayor vote by ward. I've sorted from the ward with the largest absolute margin to the smallest. The ones in parentheses favored Fateh, those without parentheses favored Frey.

The truth about bus lanes: bus drivers hate them because car drivers are maniacs.

A subplot has emerged in the post-election period: What's the future hold for electric upstart Jazz Hampton? Can his team carefully select a next move that's a winner? Or does he go on to earn the perennial candidate nickname, "Jazz Again Carney"?

According to this I'm an agent of Omar Fateh? I don't know how you publish something that gets so much factually wrong.
Mayor Frey and Sen. Fateh support converting Minneapolis Section 9 public housing to private-developer control, prompting concerns about displacement and deepening inequality.

Congratulations to our 2025 Wedgie Award Winner for Worst Pundit, Mike Norton. He wins this award both for his pre-election predictions and for his post-election analysis. Mike, in these dark times, you are truly a beacon of wrong.

We react to last week's election results in Minneapolis. Taylor Dahlin and Josh Martin join me to talk about Jacob Frey's victory, the prospect of a closely divided city council, downballot success…

On today's episode: Josh Martin opens up about what took him down a path of extremism: from Kate Knuth doorknocker in 2021 to Omar Fateh's treasurer in 2025.

Plus, reaction and analysis to last week's election results.

2025 didn't just have the highest number of voters, it had the lowest percentage of down-ballot apathy in the race for Board of Estimate & Taxation in at least the last three mayoral elections. Undervote rate (people leaving this race blank) went down from 34% to 27%.

Taylor is lint rolling her finest court clothes and affixing her fanciest hair so she can carry stacks of paper around in the background of a park board meeting livestream.
haters tell me there is "no such thing as a park board commissioner staffer."

Two candidates who each received about a half percent of the vote for mayor (Brenda Short & Laverne Turner) are casting doubt on results by falsely claiming the city clerk's office is under the direction of Mayor Frey. Press conference Monday about "discrepancies."

The Metro Transit B Line recently celebrated its one millionth ride. The new bus is almost living up to the "rapid transit" hype, if you ignore the surly guy heckling people he thinks are taking their sweet ass time boarding. That wasn't supposed to be one of the features.

I'm on my way to give a speech at a victory party for Eric Harris Bernstein, where I'll say something like "the most successful citywide progressive campaign Minneapolis has seen in a generation, powered almost entirely by downballot apathy."

Ward 4 gave us decades of Barb Johnson. It's almost like asking why Ward 13 does what it does. Ward 5 also tough — needed more resources and attention this year. Progressives were fortunate to have Ellison and Cunningham take these seats in 2017.
Someone explain why Ward 4 & 5 reject Fateh
This wasn't a vanity project for Omar the way it is for Frey. Frey's approach to governing is self-serving and hostile to anyone who doesn’t have power. That was the main difference in this election: who each side was fighting for. And again, big money and entrenched power won.

This population decline is a long term project by people with time machines (similar to the plot of "the Terminator") to use the power of exclusionary zoning (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger) to drain Ward 7 of Cashman voters.
One thing I didn't know about until recently is Kenwood's long-term decline. They lost almost 50% of their population between 1980 and 2020. Sounds like they need more housing!

I know of at least one person at a polling place who needed to be reassured that it wouldn't wreck their life: "Every time I vote they call me for jury duty."
do we know how many of those who did not register to vote did not do so because they are ineligible, vs. just not being interested in voting?

If Elizabeth Shaffer put her name on a bench and distributed them across the city I would also take swift and immediate action. There are people in this world who feel the same about EHB for BET. He's a menace.
unfortunately the bench dewayne davis and kareem murphy adopted and placed in north commons park, which has a lack of seating already, had someone who didn't like it calling and complaining, threatening to remove it. dewayne and kareem were able to rescue it and have it in their yard now at least!
dewayne davis and kareem murphy sign up to adopt their local human bench under the watchful eye of eric harris bernstein, who vows to take the fall if there is any trouble with placing it in north commons park

My post-election thoughts and an open letter to the backroom cabal who selects our candidates for mayor.

My thoughts on Jacob Frey’s reelection to a third term as mayor I’ve heard casual observers comment that “progressives need to put forward better candidates for mayor.” And who could disagree with…
