I remember taking the mandatory engineering ethics class in college where we learned about how your job comes with serious responsibility; how software that handles medicine delivery can kill people if there are bugs or how the Hyatt Regency walkway collapse happened.

This is univerallyí true. Even if you can afford to buy a hundred books a year, get a library card and keep your local library going. Borrow books.
