🧵 After 48 hours I finished decorating my Christmas tree. This year I’m going minimal with just 40% of my baubles hung 👀 Here’s my tree & some of my art library.

Now I can focus on drawing again! Here’s a thread of my one-off drawings & how you can get them for Christmas! [1]

26 December carries centuries of winter customs: from old traditions like Lá an Dreoilín (Wren Day) and Shelf yn Dreean to those more common in modern times like St. Stephen’s Day and Boxing Day. Today, we’re honing in on the Welsh wassailing folk tradition of the Mari Lwydm.

Nativity, with some visiting shepherds & the doubting midwife Salome w/ her withered hand. Wacky apocryphal tales, here brought to you in 1420 by Robert Campin for the 2nd day of Christmas.

I’m thinking I might need to share threads on plant & animal conservation. I know most people are keen on saving what’s left of nature but I’ve noticed some confusion between conservation & gardening. The two are very different & valid things - but you can’t mix them. [1]

I’m a disturbed with ppl wanting to save the probable grey squirrel. You know those rangers who protect wild animals? That would be me & my training. Grey squirrels are non-native vermin who wipe out endangered Irish red squirrels. I assume the Reds can’t cope with their N American bad manners!*
So in other news, there’s a squirrel trapped in my Christmas tree. I feel like I’m part of an ironic homage to National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. I can hear it, but don’t have the energy to rescue it tonight. I’ll have to slowly take the tree apart & catch the thing & no I have no idea how!*

There was a crash & a bang, 10 mins after I retired to my boudoir. Being a trained scientist, I checked that the bedroom door bolt was fully rammed home & had my phone on speed dial for Dublin Fire Brigade, should I hear gnawing on, my sole defence against ravishment, a shaky Edwardian door. Pray!

Paige Behan, a trans woman said “they knew they had failed me. & in doing so, they underscored a much broader truth: there is an urgent, undeniable need for both education and compassion in trans healthcare”.

Recently the Minister & the Junior Minister for health have publicly committed to changes.
Trans woman responds to Dublin hospital’s apology over denial of treatment
Reacting to the apology from the hospital, the trans woman said that it’s “merely the starting point of a far deeper, systemic issue”.

One of Ireland’s greatest artists was the stained glass creator Harry Clarke (1889-1931). He created this window depicting >The Nativity< in 1918. Clarke’s work has seen great international interest recently as it includes elements of Hiberno-Celtic & Art Nouveau in a uniquely Irish harmony.

Happy Christmas Eve. For the night that’s in it, here’s Piero della Francesca (c1415-1492) Nativity of c1470-5. Altho unfinished it’s an exquisitely beautiful painting with an icy elegant quality. The work is stunning when viewed in real life.

Leopards eating faces….

Laura Loomer’s vile attacks on Queer people are the same as those of the actual Nazis in the 1930s.

It’s funny how the Neo-Nazi movement, which she is a central part of, is only a Neo-Nazi movement when it comes for Loomer, herself.

As it’s Christmas, I thought I’d share with you a painting by the Low Countries painter Pieter Brueghel the Elder (c1525-1569) who painted one of the most atmospheric artworks in 1565; The Hunters in the Snow. I’ve used software editing to bring the image back to how it might have originally looked.

It's a busy day in Bethlehem and nobody really notices the couple who have come to be counted. As imagined by the great Pieter Bruegel.

Hopefully, whatever evil spawn comes from this hate group of Neo-Nazis, please keep it away from us in Ireland.

It’s one thing that America allows this hate, but quite another that it has forced these evil scum on Ireland to experiment on us for 40y

Also in what way are Neo-Nazis ‘conservative’?
What the fall of the Heritage Foundation says about the future of conservatism in the U.S.
Charlie Sykes questions the future of the conservative movement after an exodus of staffers from the once-influential Heritage Foundation.

My great grandmother went to Russia on her honeymoon before the Revolution and at the Faberge store in Moscow, she bought this Christmas ornament. It has been in our family ever since. My parents passed it on to me to hang on my and Dennis' Christmas tree.

I’ve been looking at young lads, who sell their art on Instagram or TikTok. They’re usually v easy on the eye, shirtless, muscular & flirty.

It’s just as well, I don’t use my fluorescent, flabby & cadaverous carcass* to sell my work!

I don’t even like explaining what the drawings mean!
