Eine Rede, die geschrieben, aber nur zu zwei Dritteln gehalten werden konnte: Als einen der „weltweit einflussreichsten Intellektuellen im Bereich politischer Ideologien, Antisemitismus und Erinnerungskultur" beschrieb die Jüdische Gemeinde Frankfurt in der Einladung zu ihrer diesjährigen Gedenkstunde am 9. November deren Gastredner, den Philosophen Jason Stanley. Der 1969 gebo-rene, Autor von Büchern wie „How Fa-scism Works" wechselte unlängst von Yale an die University of Toronto. - Stanleys Rede in der Westend-Syna-goge löste im Publikum anhaltende Unruhe aus. Der Rabbiner trat schließlich zu Stanley ans Pult und forderte ihn auf, zum Schluss zu kom-men. Von seinem Redemanuskript, das wir gekürzt abdrucken, konnte Stanley nach seinen Angaben nur etwa zwei Drittel vortragen. Marc Grün-baum, Ko-Vorstandsvorsitzender und Kulturdezernent der Jüdischen Ge-meinde, teilte der F.A.Z. mit, dass sich aufseiten des Veranstalters während der Rede die unabweisliche Uberzeu-gung gebildet habe, dass sie dem Anlass unangemessen sei, weshalb die Veranstaltung nicht wie vorgesehen habe zu Ende geführt werden können.
In Schockstarre habe man Stanleys Ausführungen über Gaza, aber auch über die deutsche Öffentlichkeit ange-hört. Eine förmliche Distanzierung der Gemeinde von ihrem Gast schon am Abend des Geschehens sei nur mit Rücksicht auf Ort und Charakter der

Hard not to come away with a sense that (however they might vote) many a university's leadership agrees with the Tr*mpist vision on some visceral level. They think they have erred in allowing *those people* access to any level of power, say or attention, and they're only too happy to course correct.
