Seems like a good time to remind ourselves that in 1931, when Mussolini forced academics to sign an oath of allegiance to the fascist regime, only twelve refused.

I think rollins got someone in the room who wants it and has bought enough trump crypto for it to happen, but I absolutely agree with you that won’t solve anything.

And of course the farm share of the food dollar is less than 15-16 cents so this likely won’t have any impact at all either. I suspect ICE has had a much larger impact. Anyway, a country is only as good as its treatment of vulnerable people and this country has sucked at it forever, even more now.

I cannot find the clip, but NPR this PM run a piece on how USDA is going to lower the H-2A worker wages to keep food prices affordable (it’s been floated before I believe). It strikes me that we are going to make the most vulnerable among us bear the burden of making things “affordable”.

Amazing sunset in Iowa City rn

Lol the photos for the Olivia Nuzzi piece in the NYT.
Don’t know if I can bring myself to read it (it’s a “great read” too).

Thank you Mark that’s helpful.

Brought it up in class today. After having told the students that US state and local initiatives can still help with climate change as the feds dropped the ball, I then had to tell them some of these initiatives are shrinking not growing. ☹️😕😔😞🙁

Banditelli getting a Banditelli style photo of a bald eagle eating from a CAFO trash container would actually be amazing. Narrative changing levels of great.

I’m cool with a Banditelli visit to Johnson County Iowa during eagle migration season, personally. Would gladly make dinner to celebrate it too.

My 2¢ for today is that people who argue for some sort of pride in a nation and its greatness present or past are always forgetting about someone’s rights being erased, generally in very painful ways. Remember those rights first, that pride doesn’t buy you anything anyway.

Really @pricelaborecon.bsky.social we need you and your people to explain this to the rest of the county. I for one am really into this crap as I teach the importance of state and state coalitions in climate policy while the feds bow out of it.

You may want to engage with Native American and Black communities in a meaningful way on how they see this country before you use the power of your expertise and followings in a public forum.
For all it’s worth, I am an immigrant who is not uplifted by your language.

Shapiro being floated as the representation of the future of the Democratic Party sure did give me pause in the context of this.

I sure did.
So.....did no one else notice that Pennsylvania just dropped RGGI?

This whole language of greatness, I wish it would go down the drain. It is basically hegemony for polite society or something like that.

This is a settler colonial country build on genocide and land expropriation, and the work of enslaved people.
There is no greatness to make up for the horrors of this foundation and its continuing erasure.

As an immigrant from a place that was invaded many times, the mother of two Native Americans and the spouse of one I implore people like this person to THINK. ABOUT. WHAT. THEY. SAY. AND. IMPLY.
Let’s forever get rid of this nationhood and greatness language for all that is holy.
More of this please. Immigrants made America. They make America better. Those who claim otherwise betray the the principles of what made and make America great.

I’m personally not a fan of the Catholic Church, having grown up non-Catholic in Italy, but I am heartened by this.

Two top contenders for sure. Also so comprised of themselves and insufferable when talking to the media.
