yeah man i LOVE technology*

“why do you hate technology” as though “technology” were some discrete entity divorced entirely from the context of what it does and what it creates, rather than a category so broad as to constitute reality itself

and it's *so little* money

for us, the difference between "good headspace, able to get life done and create things" and "total burnout" is like $800/mo

most artists aren't asking to be rich. seriously, just make life a little fucking easier and we'll handle the rest and keep you entertained.
this is why the whole “oh, suffering creates great art” thing is bullshit

you know what’s conducive to art? a roof over your head and food on the table

you know what isn’t? stressing out over where the fuck the rent money is going to come from
I regularly see people wondering how it's possible that there are so many musicians and writers and film makers and artists from a tiny nation like Iceland.

And the answer is really simple: State funding for art education and artists. I literally get a salary from the government to write books.

The idea that you can't get to know someone unless you get a really good look at their lower face at all times on demand

I don't need to know this guy. I don't want him to know me.

This level of entitlement to my personhood and conformity lets me know that he's terrible at being in community.
Weird, cause I think infecting high risk people with Covid is pretty damn unneighborly.

fun question: what’s the maddest you’ve ever been leaving a movie theater? not necessarily worst movie you’ve seen, but the one that just pissed you off the most. mine is Batman v Superman

Imagine taking up a contrarian hipster position against people who liked a play over 400 years ago

They won't even know they're owned!

Gotta appreciate the mental gymnastics for a random person on threads to arrive at a conclusion that they understand literature, writing, art, the human experience, and history itself better than millions of people before them over the last several centuries. They were all missing the big picture
Just after I took this screen, someone actually hit the heart on this.

Also, I've seen a lot of folks puzzled over the tone with which people wrote to Epstein and this piece nails it perfectly. It's fawning.

Early in the pandemic, people fixated on disinfecting surfaces, assuming it prevented infection. While hygiene matters, SARS‑CoV‑2 spreads mainly through airborne particles. Much better to focus on ventilation, masks in enclosed spaces, and hand hygiene.

I contracted as a paid media strategist at agencies for many years, basically auditing efficiencies for PPC clients. Throughout 24-25, they axed me because various AI tools made my job “unnecessary”. Seeing this contextualizes the “how’ve you been” text I got from a former colleague last week lol

Universities buying into this shit under the guise of "equity" makes me SO angry

Equity for my students would be access to the databases and journals we've dropped subscriptions for. It'd be having a paid human to caption videos and make PDFs screen-reader compatible. Not this shit.
My employer, Univ. Colorado will pay OpenAI $2M/year under the banner of “equity”. That’s 54 full scholarships / year. Plus, our IT will be able to read our chatGPT logs, and our chats can be requested under public records law. No thanks. Surveillance is not equity

This is so important. It's all but impossible to rush into taking puberty blockers.

Blockers literally slow things down and buy time for informed decision-making.

Raising a panic about blockers is a way to rush potentially trans kids through puberty, taking their choices away from them.
This entire 'debate' is so maddening. We have been promised that a groundswell of rushed, dissatisfied detransitioners was about to emerge for nearly a decade.

Not only have they never materialized, but academic research continues to show small numbers, long assessments and miniscule regret rates.
