She/her Works in a museum
Europe prefers to go with a "But we're not the US!" historical method about this history. Ignoring, you know, their part in it and some of the shady shit European countries still do.

Yeah we were actively taught in school history lessons that slavery (and indeed racism) were things that happened in America. If slavery was ever discussed as a British policy, it was in the context of abolitionism

I still remember the day that someone said that you could bet on the length of fires. And how shocking that was to me. Then someone pointed out how you could force the fire longer to get more money. And it was just depressing as hell.

i can’t talk about sports gambling anymore without sounding like a crank but i do believe legalized sports gambling is like 15-20% responsible for our current dystopia

i think online gambling is a cancer that is spreading throughout our society, it was a horrible mistake to de-regulate it, and we desperately need to crack down on it again

I've long held the gambling is not the problem, the apps are the problem. You gotta go to the place to make your bet, and you gotta go back to get your money. They can be everywhere but inside arenas, and no mobile apps of any sort. Instant karmic reset.
I agree that people who want to gamble should be forced to physically marinate in cigarette smoke and a lingering ambience of body odor and shame to do so
If gambling can’t be banned outright, it should be regulated so you can’t do it online. You should have to do it the old way, go to a dirty storefront in the worst part of town with all the other losers and hand over cash to an old guy with a layer of visible crust all over his skin.

one of many reasons why the whole "Democrats have no space for men" argument is bullshit is that they still keep misogynist creeps like Larry Summers around
I refuse to believe that Larry Summers' expertise and skills are indispensable in any way. Please find another economist and policy expert, @americanprogress.bsky.social. There are loads out there.

Give him more cubs jerseys!!!!
It is very funny that this Pope is just going to get jerseys from now on. Everyone decided that's what this Pope likes and that is it. It's like if your grandmother got you a puzzle for Christmas one year and you said you liked it so your entire extended family is like "oh that's the puzzle kid"
Spike Lee just blessed Pope Leo with a custom Knicks jersey during his visit to the Vatican, just one week after the Pope was gifted a custom Chicago Bulls one.
