Norma Talmadge was one of the top box office draws of the 1910s and 1920s. She specialized in playing tough dames, from lady gangsters to drug addicts, as well as heavy costume dramas but she did sometimes dip her toes into comedy.

More Conrad Veidt for your timelines! This ad was released just after Veidt was briefly detained by the Nazis and was released after the British studio he had signed with threw a fit.

It is a comparatively minor inconvenience, all told, but Current Times emboldening prequel defenders to try to claim they are actually deep, misunderstood masterpieces is certainly annoying

Hey, since Elon Musk was humiliated into pretending he reads books, I guess I should share!
My favorite book is really a short story so does it count? The Nose by Gogol. The humor! The tiny daily details to flesh out minor characters! The whole surreal package!

Started the pickle process and have the brine going. My whole spice collection pays off! Why yes, I DO have juniper berries and star anise and whole nutmegs!

Pickled Beef Tongue
Pickled Beef Tongue is kind of like a cross between smoked ham and corned beef. Melt-in-your-mouth tender and deliciously tasty. Definitely worth trying!

Mabel Normand and Charlie Chaplin brawl in MABEL'S BUSY DAY (1914). Normand directed this frenetic comedy and clearly has a ball mixing it up with the boys.

THE BLOOD SHIP (1927), which I have been wanting to see for more than a decade and it lived up to the hype! The hype, of course, being a bloody and decadent seafaring revenge tale.

This week's reader request was SURE-MIKE (1925), a Hal Roach comedy starring Martha Sleeper. I love Sleeper in her supporting roles with Charley Chase and was excited to see her as the solo star. Reviews were ecstatic and even called her the new Mabel Normand

I remain baffled by the ongoing popularity of jelly gouache. They now sell additional doodads to mix it after it inevitably hardens and kill the mold that inevitably grows. If only there was some invention like a "jar" or "tube" to store such paint or dry pans to avoid these issues entirely.
