I hope to grow old in a walkable neighbourhood mainly so I don’t have to be a mall walker.

This is such an important point. You shouldn’t have to be a confident cyclist to be a confident cyclist, if that makes sense. Cycling will only be safe when the little old granny with a basket on the front, the drunk guy post-pub, or schoolchildren, can all cycle with no effort or worries.

The former site of the Old Eastern Ave bridge over the Lower Don.

It was disconnected from the road network in the early 60s & and sat idle for clsoe to 65 years before being torn down in 2024.

A true pontist gem, lost.

In the past when I used to post videos of incidents on the road more regularly I used to get lots of comments like this from 'avid cyclists'. Apparently I 'caused the incidents ' by not just accepting the roads as they are. Well no, I don't accept them as they are and we absolutely shouldn't.
....the healthy upper middle class white male who trains daily says that "he has no issues at all cycling on the road - not sure what the problem is" he also noted that when he was younger he didn't have bike lanes and he was OK.

Funny yet so true. I've met people with this attitude.
Also similar nutjobs who think that all the hiviz will ward off drivers like garlic does vampires.

The U.S. will almost certainly lose its measles elimination status within a few more weeks, making the disease officially labeled as endemic within the U.S. for the first time in a quarter century.
Congrats to RFK Jr., As the U.S. Is Poised to Lose Its Measles Elimination Status After 25 Years
After a quarter century where measles was considered eliminated in the U.S., 2025's continuous outbreaks have us back at ground zero.

Mamdani: Where else can you hear the sound of the steel pan, savor the smell of sancocho, and pay $9 for coffee on the same block? Where else could a Muslim kid like me grow up eating bagels and lox every Sunday?

Ah yes, smug and cycling…

Reminds me of Calgary columnist’s suggestion that appearing smug (happy) only enrages those stuck in soul crushing traffic and causes them to act in spite against bicycle infrastructure.

So when bicycling… I guess you shouldn’t smile! 🤷‍♂️
