Hi folks! Some of our friends in the Twin Cities have come back with another request! It's a heartbreaking one but the need is real, so if anyone can help get them more masks & filters for those on the streets to deal with being gassed constantly, that would be amazing!

The hets making me have to explain straight to my kids is the WORST
/ only partially kidding
How do you explain gay?

Well, how did you explain straight?
always so funny to me when people are like “how am I supposed to explain Gay to my kids?” my kid asks me way harder shit all the time. “why did they build the road this way? why are some people bad?” I don’t know. please ask me about Gay

Anytime one of my posts gets beyond my circle, they attract a very specific kind of reply person.
I can only describe them as folks who make me briefly question reality.
It's...unsettling.

Unrelated but still daddish:

Why do the French make omelettes with only one egg?

Because they all know that one egg is un œuf.
I can’t remember how to write 1, 1000, 51, 6 and 500 in Roman numerals.

How to be a Writer.
1. Stare out of window at rain.
2. Experience a certain lassitude.
3. Contemplate the infinite.
4. Tea.

Without naming your job, tell me something you say over and over again at work.

"No, using AI isn't going to make this project go any faster."
Without naming your job, tell me something you say over and over again at work.

"If you don't cite your sources, it's plagiarism."

Me: ugh, my writing will never be as deep and thinky and twisty as these amazing novels. Why should I bother.
Also me: I'm bouncing off every deep thinky novel right now, I need something easy and fun.

Me, before the run: Dun wanna. Dun wanna. Why am I doing this. Curling into a ball covered in blankets is a better idea.
Me, after the run: I feel great! Why don't I do this every day??

This convo around glp-1s reminds me a lot of the 15+ years I spent being gaslit by doctors about my PCOS until I was trying (and failing) to get pregnant and suddenly they took me seriously.
Our medical system has some seriously fucked up priorities.
I have tried to be pretty open about my GLP-1 use over the past 18 months as I got less raw about how badly medicine had failed, betrayed, gaslit & abused me. Because I think that too much of our public discussion about them is fixated entirely on weight loss and explicitly "eating less" weight loss

I'm going to start measuring how rough our winter is based on how many times I've had to de-ice the chicken water.
Last year was once, maybe twice.
This year we're already past seven and it's still February.

(Scene: trying to explain neurodiversity to 9yo)
Me: ...society is designed for one kind of brain and anyone who's a different is considered "spicy." My spicy is that I'm more anxious, some folks are more sad--
9yo: Is there a spicy for being really annoying?
Me: That's just called being a sibling.
