To put this in scale, Elon Musk's salary from Tesla alone could fund the SNAP program for the entire country into 2034.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk scored a resounding victory on Thursday as shareholders approved a pay package of as much as $878 billion over the next decade, endorsing his vision of morphing the EV maker into an AI and robotics juggernaut.

The New York Times quickly sending out Douthat to argue that Mamdani’s victory doesn’t really matter is so predictable it borders on self-parody.

Remember, folks: Every time the Right wins an election, it’s an undeniable expression of the will of the people. If a lefty wins, it’s just a blip.

I keep getting mad at myself for never remembering to early vote but voting in the morning and then getting to be at a bar with my friends when Mamdani was named mayor in the same day was actually 10/10 and I would do it again.

...and less than 24 hours later Condé Nast has fired Lex and the rest of the Teen Vogue political desk, even as stories like this were bringing huge numbers of readers to the site
dissatisfied by the New York Times coverage of Zohran Mamdani?

great news! I talked to the guy Thursday about his campaign’s success at bringing community together beyond this election, and contextualized how it’s potentially shifted youth engagement with politics by simply listening @teenvogue.com
Zohran Mamdani's Establishment-Fighting Campaign Built Community for Young People
“What Mamdani has done is not only inspire and mobilize young people, but he has exposed the establishment and some of their calcified views of participation and inclusion.”

We are losing something by having newsrooms where everyone who has more than a few years’ experience has gotten fired. I don’t fault a young writer for not knowing about things that happened before she was born. But now there are no editors to help give context to these stories, either.

Finally getting around to posting my October events!

There may be one or two more later additions, but I am excited about all of these and I hope to see you guys there!

See how she’s TEASING ME?? Like I don’t already visit my Bookshop preorder of Year of the Mer like a kid shaking their Christmas presents??

Anyway pre-Order LD’s book so we can all wait together!
It's popular, I think, to be demure about one's own writing or to distance oneself from something well-written as if it popped into being fully formed and independent of our making it.

So before imposter syndrome returns: I have read it again, and I wrote the fuck out of this mermaid book, y'all.

My book was named one of Mary Sue’s 10 Best Sci Fi Audiobooks of all time! *cheers*

It appears I’m the only non-man and one of only two nonwhite people on the list. *boos*

I need you guys to understand I have written/thought SO MUCH about the racialization of robots and even I am too bored to take most of this “clanker” discourse seriously.

You’re all wrong and you’re all right but social media doesn’t incentivize nuance enough to be the place for this discussion.

A friend of mine was on Charlie Kirk's "watch list" of Black professors. She received so many death and rape threats that her university offered her a security detail for the walk to class.

This is Kirk's legacy.

You would never know it from reading all of these legacy newspaper op-eds about him.

“Demagogue shot by radical” is in fact a pretty common life outcome for demagogues. The problem here isn’t that the accurate narrative is complicated or hard to comprehend but that it’s socially inconvenient and gets scary people to yell at you.
From an Atlantic editor.

I cannot get over how the entire centrist hivemind is attempting to wish into existence a person, and a movement, that does not exist. You are journalists, you are supposed to describe things as they are, not how you want them to be!
