Like, no joke, hope Ilia has a good support network around him the next few days. That's gotta be a living nightmare.

Meanwhile, Shaidorov just had his wildest dream come true.

Shocking.

Just a wee note that I'm closed to blurb requests for a while. It's something I struggle with at the best of times (I'm slow + a mood reader + it feels like work when there's a deadline), so as soon as things get intense, it's the first thing to go. I'll try to do ones I already accepted. Thanks!

In December, I went to Blackness Castle as a bit of book research, so I'm sharing a few photos! My next fantasy project is loosely inspired by the Border Wars, the Reivers, and the Wars of the Rough Wooing (so 1550s to 1650s or so).

We know you're obsessed with the Micah Grey trilogy by @lrlam.bsky.social, but now you can get themed magnets! Preorder Masquerade, the third and final book of this propulsive fantasy series and fill out the form. Just like a carnival attraction, you won't be able to look away!

Thank you so much to everyone who donated. Made the end of the month much easier, and they're both so grateful.
I'm re-sharing the Gofundme for two family members I made last year. They had a series of tragedies beginning in early 2024. We successfully raised enough to help them relocate to a new state last year, and the elder sister has a new job in her field. gofund.me/a455ba8c0

2016 was quite a transition year, so I thought I'd look back. Career-wise, life-wise. World politics wise, too, of course. Here's a glimpse of my life 10 years ago. Gotta say, I'm tempted to dye my hair pink again after walking down memory lane.

I'd agree with this! I tend to call it "cosy-adjacent." There are cosy elements, but also has some bite. The older versions were a bit darker, but I softened certain elements this time around. The series as a whole does trend towards hope, I'd say.

Please, never be shy telling an author you loved their books.

It’s seriously what gets us through.

I've gotten so many more responses than I thought I would--thanks so much, everyone! I'll be collecting for a few more days, then I'll liaise with my publisher and then start reaching out to people directly once I know what I can offer.
Internet, I ask for your help: can you share your favourite UK-based bookish bloggers/influencers who might be interested in reading a book about an intersex, bisexual protagonist set in a magic circus? Think The Night Circus set in a gaslight fantasy world.

Goldilocks by @lrlam.bsky.social focuses on four female astronauts who steal an interstellar spaceship in pursuit of an exoplanet that can sustain a new civilization, as society on a dying Earth becomes increasingly oppressive toward women. Loved the hard sci-fi elements and social commentary.

This week, on Paired Reads . . .

Still catching up on books I read last year, we have The Tarot Reader of Versailles by my beloved @anyabergmanwriter, a historical fiction with a dash of magic set during the French Revolution, and Most Ardently, a trans retelling of P&P by @thegabecole.

Here's a snippet of my corkboard in my office with my tentative 2026 goals! A few things are up in the air, hence the question marks. At the bottom of the corkboard are my mantras:

- Have fun
- It's okay to say no
- Give fewer f*cks
- Average is not failure
- Failure is temporary (as is success)

It's 2026, and I'm coming back to Paired Reads.

First up, I read all three of the Emily Wilde books by Heather Fawcett last year & adored them. This series pairs perfectly with A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan.

What other books or series are similar to these two that you'd recommend?
