Forgot to add that this goes hand-in-hand with, "Every accusation is an admission." Right wing accuses honest reporting of lies, because that's what they would do. They claim evidence is faked, because they would fake it. They keep talking about election fraud, because they will commit fraud.
The majority of them believe that bullshit because it resolves the cognitive dissonance in their own heads.
It's a stronger influence than most people give credit to.
You've got to create a reality where your shitty behavior is OK because everyone else is just as shitty, they're just hiding it.

Really feels like a tipping point now, with lots of the familiar centrist Dems and even MAGA Silicon Valley types calling out Trump (and Stephen Miller) for harsh immigration policy. Dem leadership has moved to no funding for DHS, and R senators are calling for investigations (weak but notable).
