This isn't new but I listened to it again today. It gets me. It's rare for whatever reason that you hear pride in San Diego expressed. You'll hear I love living in San Diego much more than you'll hear I love San Diego. But I really do love this place. #OneSD

Seeing some posts about how the worst of the worst are the ones that join ICE and my guess is that's not what we'll find out if we ever have some form of transitional justice effort. Very normal people can end up doing very horrible things.

This is a good thread and a reminder the the anti-fascist movement in this country is just getting started. We have so much more strategic depth than we imagine. The muscle-memory has atrophied from decades of dis-use. But, it's coming back and is an unstoppable force.
An obvious thing at this point but something i wanna stress again is: in the weeks of reporting this, including from Minnesota, @premthakker.bsky.social @andrewperez.bsky.social and I consistently find proof that each crackdown, each act of depraved aggression, each killing, only made the…
The Minnesotans involved know it’s not over. Far from it, for them and the country

But in this round, it’s clear. They’re winning, Trump’s sweating

Stating up front: this is *NOT* a defense of Newsom.

There's something about this general sentiment that's been bothering me for a while, unrelated to Newsom's many, many defects of both character and as a candidate, but I haven't been able to put my finger on it until the last couple of days.
tbh nobody should be asking leftists if they'll support newsom and leftists should mostly brush off the question. it's a divisive trap that serves *only* newsom's personal interests. he isn't the candidate, he's a shithead and nominating him would be a bad idea. useless hypothetical.

Have been thinking about this. Even at its peak, the fact that being concerned about gay people and abortion were the only things that counted as values was absurd and insulting. But the current moment and especially MN has given us the opportunity to truly bury this idea forever.
Hey, remember “values voters”?
If this offends you, you are the problem.

The other best piece of descending advice I’ve gotten is follow your exit line out with your eyes. I realized I was locking in on the apex.
Was talking awhile ago to a mountain biker about how I’m terrible at descending on a gravel bike. She said bend your elbows. One of those things I thought I was doing but it helped to really exaggerate it. A good piece of advice.

A fact that sounds like bullshit but is actually true:

There is more square footage of parking *per car* in the US than there is square footage of housing *per person.*

I take the point here but these aren’t mutually exclusive. I’ve been in a room where Libyans joked about Gadaffi.
You can joke about Pam Bondi’s ridiculous unprofessionalism all you want, but I’m deeply shocked by it: She acts as if she fears absolutely no consequences, convinced that there will be no more political power transfers. — This should shake everyone to their core.

This is the type of thing I keep trying to talk to people about for higher ed. Not conference rooms where I "listen to diverse perspectives" but actually doing work to imagine what strengthening the US higher education system in furtherance of a democracy would look like.
Very excited about this new @knightcolumbia.org project, both because it gives us the chance to look beyond the current democratic crisis and because so many super people have already agreed to participate. knightcolumbia.org/content/new-...

I have been pleasantly surprised to hear people openly talking about the end of institutional life as we know it (it’s been over. We’ve been living and working in zombie institutions for three decades now) and instead of collapsing at the thought they’re like okay let’s rebuild but better. More.

Advocates say the bill, framed as a safety measure, would "functionally and explicitly ban biking on most of Iowa’s roadways"
