The cursed thing that no one wants to think about is that this is also an accurate summary of Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign.
The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon

People are very mad and looking for some place to put it, and they've decided Schumer is the sin eater for all of their negative feelings about government at the moment, regardless of anything he did or did not do.
I gotta say the evidence that Schumer is secretly controlling the cave caucus is some real thin gruel. It basically rests on the assumption of a level of Senate partisan discipline normally seen in a parliamentary democracy when it isn't just leaning on even grosser "perfidious jew" tropes.

Maybe I put the horse before the cart, but I thought part of the point of keeping the shutdown going was to get people motivated to vote this past Tuesday, not to win the elections so the shutdown can continue.
Do...do people think this is tenable until the midterms *next year*?

Since, apparently, I haven’t pissed off enough people on this site in the last 24 hours:
The hard nut to swallow here is that the ACA was on the table during the 2024 elections, and enough people didn’t care or didn’t find that motivation enough.
And now, here we are.

Anyways really enjoying all the people in my mentions this morning telling me that myself and other federal workers need to be good soldiers and keep eating the shit sandwich for the sake of the greater good.
I can see I may need to turn on the "only replies from people who follow me" setting.

I would genuinely like to know who some of you have in mind as the ideal Senate Minority Leader candidate, and by what means that person would be able to keep a caucus consolidated beyond a 40-day shutdown.

Cannot believe I’ve woken up to multiple people saying the shutdown should be allowed to continue through the Thanksgiving weekend so that the GOP can bear the consequences from not having enough air traffic controllers.
You are talking about people getting hurt & killed in plane crashes!

He’s an odious bastard but he can read a damn room.
Tonight’s Senate vote on the federal government shutdown should have been a time for strength.
Instead we saw capitulation and a betrayal of working Americans.
The American people need more from their leaders.

The number of people responding to this with arguments that can be boiled down to, "they're fucked anyway, and should take one for the team*" pretty aptly demonstrates why I felt the need to say it in the first place.
*even though I did not, and do no not, condone the current deal

I think some of you have not taken a single moment to consider that the people who’ve been out of work for the last 40 days and who are presently staring down the prospect of going into the holiday season without a paycheck are *also* calling their congresspeople.

Every single government shutdown in my lifetime is the zenith of the "Republicans are Dad, Democrats are Mom" paradigm.

The gentle suggestion that actual people are currently suffering due to the shutdown and it isn't just some abstract thought experiment in political tactics seems to have made some people on here quite upset.

Look people, I don't know what to tell you, you can either read Politico articles or you can wire a car battery to your tongue, both will have roughly the same outcome on your long-term well-being.

Contrast this against a certain someone whose immediate response to the public finding out he's had a Nazi tattoo for 18 years was to throw more than one little pity-party for himself.
Mamdani has shown considerable self-control in the face of some quite horrific tantrums.
Self-control imo is the quality modern masculinity is most sorely in need of.
