& also like during covid, Trump is fundamentally not capable of solving the current affordability crisis specifically bc Trumps idea of solving a problem is bullshitting ppl to their faces & saying its fixed. Actually fixing a problem is not in his tool set. All he knows how to do is lie on camera.
During Trump I, Trump was largely fine re: economic sentiment right until the point where the president actually needed to do stuff--ie the pandemic happened.
It will never not be crazy to me that America thought a guy infamous for driving businesses into the ground wouldnt do the same to us.

A related irony is that he inherited a strong economy from Obama and reaped all the credit with public sentiment for not touching it, then torched that credit in Term Two by actually making economic policy

I think it’s worth keeping in mind how dangerous playing the turning the suffering up dial to make my opponents look bad is to play. it’s terrible that the two parties aren’t equally sensitive to suffering but it’s suffering nonetheless
the discourse on shutdown stuff from “the base” is predictably completely out of hand now - by the tone of the discussion think that there weren’t hundreds of thousands of people going without pay and a literally imminent drop off on desperately needed food stamps

Ugh I botched this...right, not wrong. I think they expect future elections. Hey, it's been a long week.
For what it's worth, I don't think that the cynical "they don't think there will ever be another election" is wrong. My guess is that Trump himself is oblivious to it...and the ideologues believe this is their one and only chance to get policy wins and they want to fully exploit it no matter what.
