This isn't remotely a new problem, but the tendency for media to focus on how movies perform versus "expectations" is particularly obnoxious when the movie in question is fascist propaganda directed by an accused sex criminal with a starring role in the Epstein files.

One aspect of all this that's sort of being lost in the shuffle is that propaganda about Trump came out, Trump encouraged his followers to go see it, and then they just... didn't. At least not in numbers that matter.

A few years ago, I feel they would have. That seems significant.
Embarrassed for my colleagues at the trades, who yesterday breathlessly reported that MELANIA would do $8 million at the box office this weekend, and now, when the number comes in at $7 million, are breathlessly spinning that as a win, too.

$7 million on a $75M investment is not a win—period.

Rewatched The City of Lost Children for the first time in almost three decades.

Damn it's a weird movie. But also a cool one. I like it a lot more now than I did when I watched it in high school. #filmsky
a man talking to a little girl with the words who has stolen the child 's dream on the bottom
Alt: Scene from the movie, The City of Lost Children, showing a mad scientist loading a kid into a dream-steeling machine while a brain in a fish tank narrates a story about said scientist.

The post-Me Too era has really taught me that the underlying issue with the persistence of sexual violence isn’t exactly women’s credibility, as the “believe women” slogan suggested, but rather with rape’s moral status. It’s not that people think it doesn’t happen. They think it doesn’t matter.
It's disturbing to see many of the the major figures in moral cognition all over the Epstein files

He was friendly with a huge number of the leading figures in the field, including giving millions to their labs, long after he pled guilty to sexually abusing young girls

I've seen so much handwringing about turning a blind eye to sexual abuse of women and girls, just for access to power and money and: No. There is no blind eye, there is no rationalization or justification. It's not about his wealth. It's that most people do not care about raping women and children.

The very well-accepted term for "stripping the legal protections of a minority group and then sending a paramilitary force to carry them away" is "ethnic cleansing."

They are planning to ethnically cleanse Springfield, Ohio.

Finally got around to the Silent Night, Deadly Night reboot, which basically uses the visual language of the original to deliver the single best Punisher movie anyone's pulled off to date.

The kindest, most selfless thing Amazon has ever done for mainstream reviewers.

No one should have to see this, and now no one ever will.

Not even the press.

Holy shit.

Episode 4 is one of the better MCU *movies*.
Watched the first two episodes of Wonder Man, and I'm loving it.

Do the recons to Slattery's past work with what we saw in Iron Man 3? Hell, no. Does this matter in the slightest? Nope!

Great show so far!

Looking forward to seeing how they defend this absolutely fucking insane level of corruption.
President Trump has filed a lawsuit against the IRS, in which he demands that the IRS, which he as president controls, pay him $10 billion.

If you haven't watched the clip, you might not realize he also insults homeowners, in addition to insulting anyone trying to buy a home. Perhaps the most tone deaf, patronizing 40 seconds ever captured on video.
Trump: "People that own their homes -- we're gonna keep them wealthy. We're gonna keep those prices up. We're not gonna destroy the value of their homes so that somebody who didn't work very hard can buy a home."
