Turning on Stancil for, I dunno, getting too much attention doing good things is the first real Bad Vibes moment I’ve seen out of Minnesota

The thing is, a Democratic party that's serious about tackling this country's structural problems would be talking about the DC nuclear option (admitting DC as 170 states or whatever) when they're back in power, and as it stands I'm not even confident they'll abolish the filibuster.

the thing is that the deeper you dig into Netanyahu's career the more you can blame on him (like Rabin!) but also a settler-colonial state, even a nominally democratic one, was going to face these contradictions eventually
I’ve come all the way around to “scapegoating Netanyahu” being a more accurate description of Israel’s last three decades than the inverse “this was always Israel’s inevitable path”

The thing is that the value of US security guarantees has completely crashed since this time last year. They're pretty darn meaningless.
NEW: The United States is reportedly pushing Ukraine to cede the remainder of Donetsk Oblast to Russia in exchange for US security guarantees.🧵(1/9)

The thing is, most white people are at least somewhat racist, but most white people are emphatically not white supremacists. Most white racism is more incohate and a general sense of "I don't like having to push 1 for English," not "We should deport anyone lacking Mayflower ancestry."
Oh man, when you're a white supremacist President and you've lost white folks. That's gotta sting!
Economist/YouGov poll shows Trump's approval with

White people:
47% approve
51% disapprove

Hispanics:
27%
68%

18-29:
32%
63%

Men:
43%
54%

Women:
35%

the thing is unlike the UK third parties are de facto illegal in this country
I have sympathy for this argument, given America's experience of watching ticket-splitting get them atrocious Presidents, but I also can't take it that seriously while looking at the UK's fragmented party system under FPTP.

There's no a priori reason why the Democrats can't be supplanted.

the thing is, violence looks like violence no matter how you dress it up—once you recognize violence. which teacher who has seen ICE drag away children will now be fine watching "School Resource Officers" body slamming preteens for not showing respect? who will ignore this dissonance now recognized?

The thing is it's true that most scientists will respond to an email from the General Public for a copy of their research like a thirsty man to water AND it's also true that the system for producing new scientists is an abusive one that spits a lot of overqualified MS and PhD's into the labor pool.
This is true but also some of them will do this while actively avoiding their own graduate students. Humans are complex creatures.

the thing is that political comedy *can* be partisan and funny, the reason The Onion and similar sites are like this is because they're being prudent comedians and making sure they dunk on "both sides" enough to keep the largest audience

but they could be funny and not do that!
The older I get the more I think political comedy hurts more than it helps, every jackass online is more interested in posting glibly passive aggressive, and ultimately nihilistic, quips than acting normal for five seconds.
