"rich asshole who stops a multi-billion dollar project and causes an international incident to protect his lucrative duty-free gasoline concession" is really the perfect exemplar of parasitic trumpism. think of how wealthy the american people would be if we shook off all these bloodsuckers.

I'm happy to have Yankee adopted as a demonym for the entire country because it furthers my goal of eradicating Dixie cultural identity
'yankee' having a completely different meaning in different parts of the US is a bit of a problem, also its origins are obscure, but otherwise its fine

It's weird that most browser/keyboard dictionaries still consider "okey" to be an acceptable spelling because I've literally never seen it in the wild

One of every thousand American residents has been taken into custody by ICE in the last year.
A stunning detail the ICE chief shared in this hearing that was supposed to be a brag, except it isn't: ICE has arrested 379,000 people between Jan. 2025-Jan. 2026 -- but only 8,700 were suspected gang members or known suspected terrorists.

That's 2%! www.huffpost.com/entry/latest...

Ethos is underrated as an aspect of argument. There is a kind of early internet person that treats all non-logos argument as presumptively invalid and I think that kind of person is terrible and smells bad

I'm convinced that he has lost the ability to do his job because he is afraid of right wing violence against his family, and when things get to that point you really have a duty to resign
Kind of shocking how much respect I’ve lost for Tim Walz in all of this.

This hasn't happened much since I was put on the British TERF blocklist, but it is common on here for people to expect grovelling apologies for accidental misgendering in the middle of a debate.

Not great for the advancement of trans rights when people do that, imho
What you guys need to understand is that if you want me to take your accusations of racism/misogyny/transphobia/etc. seriously, you first need to satisfy the gateway criterion of not acting like malicious freaks who are incredibly thrilled to make those accusations. Then we can talk like adults

中国, i.e. Zhongguo, what we call China, literally translates to "middle kingdom", as in center of the world. But they're not in the center of MY map. They therefore need to change their name for their own country in their language to satisfy my resentment.
In English, America is traditionally used just for the US for various historical reasons. In Spanish it's used for the entire hemisphere for different historical reasons more relevant to a Spanish speaker. I do not understand getting pissy about a grouping convention in a whole different language.

A year ago, we were on the cusp of turning many cancers into chronic rather than terminal diseases through immunotherapy and mRNA vaccines. Today, we're working through the curative qualities of a magical horse paste instead.

This graphic is wrong, the number of generations is limited to three.

That's fine though. I'm an American. I love this country so much I'm ready to purge about a third of it.

Pretty wild to me how many students were willing to occupy university buildings to protest something happening halfway around the world, but not in response to those very same universities caving to an authoritarian administration setting up concentration camps in our own borders

This is wild. My understanding is that Native Americans from the United States prefer the term American Indian?
“American Indian” is not an offensive term and the weirdos who searched through my tens of thousands of posts to try and find something they could use to label me a racist are not acting in good faith. The game of trying to set up rhetorical tripwires to attack people you hate is incredibly toxic.
When members of a marginalised group tell you to stop using a term to refer to them, it’s not hard to just… be gracious and stop doing it. Which is much easier and makes you look a lot better than doubling down on a racist term and telling the people who find it offensive that they’re wrong.
