I'm ok with certain alternatives to prison if I'm being honest.
If Moderna is no longer bringing vaccine trials for Epstein-Barr virus (good evidence that EB causes Multiple Sclerosis), herpes, and shingles because of Trump appointees, I want prison time for those appointees.

I think it is also generally true that the US regulatory environment means that things are more expensive for us and also we get cool shit earlier than everyone else. We are essentially collective early adopters of everything. So many of us are blind to this trade off.
This is extremely powerful anecdata in favor of the notion that the US health care consumer subsidizes medical advances for the rest of the world.
In terms of what cures are being lost:

If this were true and didn't immediately work to extend rights to the LLMs we'd be engaging in slavery. I very much doubt that Amodei is suggesting we shut down his company so we can dismiss this as the BS it is.
I'm pretty sure I know. They aren't. We're not going to really be able to make a lot of progress in dealing with the implications of this tech unless and until we get rid of all this "woo-woo" talk about LLMs. Anthropic pushing this line is PR, unserious.
