To the extent my country is exceptional it is because we are a country of all people and none. The world made manifest. A nation of nations. A people united in truly radical ideas of freedom, equality, and justice for all. Any attempt to undo this is treason and also seeks to make us ordinary.

"Women are treated as inherently bourgeois" so succinctly and deftly sums up the resentful gender politics at the heart of the reactionary left that I'm shocked I havent seen this expressed before
"Girlboss" as an epithet was a load-bearing piece of the new societal consensus that women are inherently bourgeois and don't deserve power or status, and it needs reclamation stat before we truly return to monke on gender issues
We need to rehabilitate the "girlboss" as a concept, seeing how it took approximately 2.5 seconds for us to go from deciding they were cringe to a rapeboss taking over the world.

you don't just offer 500B to separatists without there being a deeper strategy at play here
they're not likely to succeed (imo) but the US is backing the separatists with a 500B line of credit

tbh i think that like the cumulative radicalization of the GOP is probably going to end with them deciding "we either go all in on NatCon authoritarianism or we face a FDR wipeout"
I just can't really imagine republicans getting back to normal, but maybe the US gets lucky with like a meloni figure

oh they have this delusion that UN mandates access to the coasts which will somehow force BC(?) to allow them to build a pipeline once they seperate
Access to the oceans? Who needs it!

Look, the Supreme Court has said multiple times now that partisan gerrymandering is fully consistent with American democracy, who are we to argue with the wisdom and insight His Most Honorable Excellence Chief Justice Roberts?
Some thoughts:

1. Gerrymandering is terrible and a betrayal of fundamental democratic principles
2. Democrats, unfortunately, had to betray those principles to prevent the country from falling further into auth-right politics
3. The self-own by Trump is, yes, absolutely hilarious

gotta agree with this. at some point we all have to contend with what good faith is actually for and extend it accordingly
A lot of our political discourse would be easier if we didn't extend good faith to people who would never extend it back.

bullshit. I dare you to find a single person who was exploded by a direct RPG blast to the torso and has anything negative to say about the experience.
this is why you should *never* hit someone with an rpg. it’s dangerous, it’s shitty, and it’s wrong

If you want to feel the bitterness one has for the Stalinists I recommend his essays about Catalonia and his book on the subject HOMAGE TO CATALONIA.
it's genuinely heart-breaking to me that Stalin had American communists doing protests in front of the White House against Lend-Lease until he was suddenly the newest beneficiary
watched Animal Farm a week ago and even in adaptation Orwell's disillusionment and despair over what Stalin did to Lenin's dream is palpable

on the balance i think partisan gerrymandering is bad but the only way it ends is if democrats weaponize it against republicans everywhere they can. wiping out republican lawmakers in blue states might bring the GOP to the table to end the practice.

very good rejoinder to a pretty shoddy and motivated piece. my main comment though is that i would not concede the idea that roosevelt — who essentially coined “liberalism” as americans have understood it — was an “anti-liberal”
Useful, clarifying examination of Trumpism from @nilsgilman.bsky.social, focusing on its foundational elements of "extractive" capitalism, white nationalism, "the systematic dismantling of labor protections," abuses of power, self dealing, and corruption:

trump creating the incentive and permission structure for democrats to do insane 2010-era gerrymandering of their own may turn out to be one of the biggest self-owns of all time. dems are now pretty likely to emerge with an advantage from the 2025-26 redistricting wars
