Sometimes I think “everyone is twelve” is overstated. Then I see the literal health secretary announcing that he will never eat his vegetables and you can’t make him.

one of my many, many side projects is trying to figure out a tabletop game inspired by The Favourite and The Death of Stalin where you all play courtiers for some despot and whatever qualities you give your character is reflected with a negative version in the ruler—hence why you are there at all

This is been the focus of a lot of my writing the last few years; there is a lot of room for overlap in goals and tactics between Liberal Zionists and anti-Zionists (depending on definition), but that requires actually seeing the Occupation as an urgent, existential issue that *must* be addressed.
This is in part why I don't necessarily think the divide in the US is strictly between doctrinaire Zionism and anti-Zionism, though these can be useful self sorting mechanisms, but between those who simply think Israel *has the right* to rule over Palestinians and those who do not.
The underlying political consensus prior to Oct 2023 in the US was that Palestine was an internal issue which the Israelis were entitled to managing for the indefinite future. This was the view of all in DC but literally just a handful. The divide was on the *preference* for *how* Israel managed it.
