To the extent my country is exceptional it is because we are a country of all people and none. The world made manifest. A nation of nations. A people united in truly radical ideas of freedom, equality, and justice for all. Any attempt to undo this is treason and also seeks to make us ordinary.

The Biden Admin is maddening because it was so many people playing ball and it fucked up the most important thing.
will not get over that the people that backed biden right up until the end were most of the squad, handful of progressives, motherfucking joe manchin, and like half the cbc, and they were also the ones quickest to back harris instead of doing an insane primary
plus, the left has shown much better "party loyalty" and harm-reduction instincts in the actual voting booth than the center has. PUMA democrats bail to support the right when a more progressive candidate is on the ballot far more than leftists do when the usual centrist is.

it’s kinda funny how some think tanks are like “we should introduce sensible, economically sound policies to win over swing voters” while the politicians who actually win over swing voters are like, the dumbest people on earth

The "most moderates are actually just idiosyncratic" principle in practice: the people who handled both the Biden turbulence & the switch with the least issues were generally the ones who were clearest about what they wanted from Biden & from Harris, respectively

This is not a criticism of Sky or Will, but I do find it kind of weird that I have encountered maybe a hundredth of this kind of user, despite moving in the same circles and being a relatively big account, by BSky standards. It just feels very random.
it is not feasible, let alone reasonable, to tell new users to be like "Hi, welcome to bluesky! you are in grave danger from Those Users. first you gotta IMMEDIATELY subscribe to these blocklists. no the other ones. then if you see someone coming through the blocks to talk shit, ITS ON SIGHT."
Yeah, it’s insanely corrosive to both individual users like you and to site health as a whole! This shit does not happen on healthy, well-moderated sites!

We need to crush this infernal little guild as quickly as possible. They weren't content with their subsidized lifestyle, they supported Trump to get more, and now they should pay the price.

I used to think: another case of US leftism being anarchist inflected vs UK leftism being socialist inflected. But subsequently I came to think the bizarre tolerance-of-anti-social-behaviour element of wokeness derives from the fact that too many American social mores are enforced by men with guns.

Congressional Republicans are going to deprive D.C. of $700 million in revenue and repeal a local program projected to reduce child poverty by 20 percent, solely to spite District residents and make us suffer. They’re also throwing our tax filing into utter chaos. This is a disaster.

i wonder what the uh implications of the medicaid cuts are gonna be on the elder care thermonuclear bomb (genuinely don't know if there are any)
Yikes here are the numbers for the past 12 months. Everything is pretty much dead except healthcare/social assistance. Note that healthcare growth is largely not about the business cycle -- it's about the aging of the population and more elderly people needing care.
