Blogging about the wonderful world of fiction and the humanities. Well really mostly posting now.

To the extent my country is exceptional it is because we are a country of all people and none. The world made manifest. A nation of nations. A people united in truly radical ideas of freedom, equality, and justice for all. Any attempt to undo this is treason and also seeks to make us ordinary.

While Hanania may have kept his ‘white supremacist past’ secret, his white suprematist present has been pretty much an open book
so i wrote the story NYT links to there, exposing how Hanania used pseudonym to write for Nazi sites, advocating eugenics & forced sterilization of "low IQ" people (who he argued were black) before he ditched the fake name to rise to prominence in academia/media... www.huffpost.com/entry/richar...
This Man Has The Ear Of Billionaires — And A White Supremacist Past He Kept A Secret
Hanania is championed by tech moguls and a U.S. senator, but HuffPost found he used a pen name to become an important figure in the “alt-right.”

I was diagnosed with MS 12 years ago after an attack of full body neuropathy. I’ve been really lucky that I haven’t had any subsequent attacks. Still, the possibility always hangs over me, and the possibility of taking that stress from others was joyous to me. This is so awful.
Moderna has 2 trials for EBV vaccines in Phase 1/2 and Phase 2. EBV is now widely believed to be a causative agent for Multiple Sclerosis. Just under 3 million people in the world, about 1 million in the US have MS.

Conservatives losing their shit over Bad Bunny is hilarious because he's honestly on the cleaner side of PR reggaeton artists

but of course they don't actually care about the lyrics because they by and large don't speak Spanish

This episode has been a nightmare for my city and state, but I hope people realize it’s also a profound defeat and political catastrophe for Trump and DHS, who are slinking away having accomplished nothing. Minneapolis simply wouldn’t bend to them and they lost
Homan in Minnesota: "I have proposed, and President Trump has concurred, that this surge operation conclude. A significant drawdown has already been underway this week and will continue."

Fascinating sequence of trials happened during trump i where people got prosecuted for leaving water and otherwise saving lives — i say fascinating because the guy (and iirc maybe one other?) successfully used a religious expression defense, like the aid was a tenet of their faith

I knew a guy like that but he wasn't a child and instead of duct tape they tied him to the chair and instead of force feeding him anchovies they broke his throne and they cut his hair and from his lips they drew the hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah.

the thing about movement conservativism is that movement conservativism does not have a cadre of people who spend a year working on a story where the upshot is "are we doing too much conservativism"

You can't... repeal... a scientific finding. At that point it's just called lying about it.
Breaking News: The Trump administration repealed the bedrock scientific finding that greenhouse gases threaten human life and well being, meaning that the EPA can no longer regulate them. nyti.ms/4rSszQu

funny to see this clip of an anonymous chud who needs white supremacy to feel like his life has meaning just after attending an event honoring a brilliant black scholar for her brilliant book
Trump nominated a legit white nationalist to a top post at the State Department. I asked him some basic questions about his belief in the “erasure of white culture”. Watch this embarrassing, fumbling answer. Like he has never before been asked to explain his views.

I'm not worried the voters are going to turn on Republicans.

But I'm kinda worried about their ability to understand that sometimes the bill arrives after the meal's already been eaten.

Like we're talking about people who can't connect Trump to the end of Roe v Wade.

"policy should favor arbitration" exactly incorrect. policy should favor formal adjudication in a common-law system, that's where the laws come from.
