This is interesting but I don't find it terribly useful critically. Videogames have a lot of dialogue that varies wildly in contextual importance, including incidental or tutorializing dialogue. I don't think you can get a real picture of how gender is treated from raw data except at a basic level.

yeah I think it's heavily skewed by how few women end up as antagonists or in the kind of supporting roles that require them to speak a lot
unless a party member narrates they're necessarily going to be talking less than the NPCs do in certain types of RPGs, too

If this is accurate it's fascinating and goes to show there isn't a direct corellation between female leads and female character dialog amount...likely because wordier characters like advisors, authority figures, villains and comic relief are frequently male.

while the later expansions have more female characters, like 90% of the dialogue is Emet or Hermes or G'raha Tia monologuing
I wonder how far this goes...I find it hard to believe the expacs after hw are that low considering the main characters in stb are 3 women and 3/7 scions are also women...and enw was a female lead with like 80% of the dialogue...

Weird feelings knowing MS owns 70% of this entire list, albeit largely after the fact. It really does speak volumes about how much the 360's success was localized to the US, as big as it was. It's no wonder it struggled in certain other markets with such a dearth in genre variety. A literal desert.
