Yeah, they're just way too aggressive, to the point that I don't really trust their calls anymore
this looks bad on decision desk calling it prematurely lol

also related but it drives me crazy that they get this response for furloughed middle class federal workers but not for like… the hispanic families being nabbed off the street or the tens of millions being dropped from SNAP

This reads like a post from an alternate universe where anti-Desi racism is really widespread
Like legit how is "cardiologist" a negative, apart from being a Desi stereotype

Btw, everyone who confidently said the Axios story revealing the cave was fake should be banned from political commentary forever

Fairly clear Whitehouse was one of the ones who was given cover to vote No but really wanted to vote Yes. Like what even is this, man
But there are real dangers out there that must be fought; and energy spent fighting each other is energy lost to that bigger fight.

I cannot imagine a human who is actually convinced by this
The sooner we get past internal recriminations and back to fighting united, the better off we all are — the likelier our victory next November.

I remember arguing with a friend about this, he stuck with Musk until covid, and was still saying he wasn't the worst billionaire until DOGE/USAID (argument being Zuckerberg was worse because of Myanmar)
one time I pointed out that elon musk followed no women on twitter and he immediately followed caity weaver

I think this is simultaneously true while also not being a particularly compelling argument to people who saw the Democratic party vehemently oppose Mamdani in the primary then either halfheartedly support him or actively run a racist campaign against him in the general

Really just an unbelievable series of Ls for people who adopt a realist theory of politics. We have two parties committed to playing this shutdown as stupidly as possible

Ok like tbh this is the one (1) part of prequels rehabilitation that's very straightforward. Jar jar was a comic relief character for 3 year olds, so if you were 3 when you saw the phantom menace, you'll have fond memories of him. The equivalent for older people is ewoks
It’s wild, people pretending they loved Jar Jar Binks
One of the funniest things about getting older is watching people my age succumb to nostalgia about these terrible films.

I see a lot of "if the Epstein files are really that bad we'd know about it" and like, while this is certainly possible, we didn't know about the birthday book until this year, and when it came out the wsj (I think unintentionally) sanitized away the worst part (that it was a drawing of a child)

I'm sure I'm misremembering details but I remember watching an episode of a sitcom a few decades ago (i think it was two broke girls) where the act of not paying your landlord for back rent after you get evicted for rent nonpayment is treated as a moral failing

This is why they don’t fight for you, because you still come running to the door all excited they’re home no matter how hard they kicked you in the teeth before they left.

It's interesting that this cave absolutely did not come from the consultant type moderates. I agree with these guys on not much but they get "trump unpopular=good"
Instead, it appears to have come from a separate tendency within the Democratic party to just be losers for the sake of being losers

This is what's so aggravating — yes, it was not working in extracting a policy concession but it was working in *driving down trump's numbers and provoking GOP infighting* which is what's important if you take Dem rhetoric about the perils of MAGA remotely seriously.
weirdly honest messaging from the breakaway mod/institutionalist leaders who blew up the party strategy
they're explicitly giving up. "It wasn't working so we quit" that's the message

it was in fact working. the republicans were being blamed. the government wasn't able to pass laws. then you came in and ruined it so you could say it wasn't working. saboteurs

The complete lack of interest in slightly covering up the fact that this was a top-down decision to make 8 people who won't be up soon the villains is genuinely insulting. They think we are morons
KILMEADE: Schumer says he's voting no. Did you do this outside leadership?
SHAHEEN: No. We kept leadership informed throughout.

There's all this stuff about how democrats have to lose because they're more empathetic or whatever and like, when did we sign up for this?
I certainly never did, I just want social progress and a more equal society. When did being a loser get bundled with this?

Even now, some of the activists angriest with Senate Democrats are mad there won’t be more travel chaos, even though travel chaos is literally dangerous.
Had the shutdown continued, Republicans would have been blamed for holiday travel chaos — and by the time the next CR fight comes along, rates will have already gone up for millions.
We gave away all our leverage for literally no reason.

You don't have to blame any of this on Democrats. Literally none of this is the Democrats fault.

the “axios is fake news trying to stir shit, dems aren’t gonna cave” to “the dem deal is actually good and smart and savvy” pipeline is real and best explained not be rational trains of thought but fear and cognitive dissonance

Genuinely the most parsimonious explanation was they wanted to cave before a decision potentially protecting SNAP
I cannot believe they couldn't wait for the first circuit to rule on SNAP
