One of these is a manmade horror beyond comprehension, the other is just some cells in a petri dish. I have no idea why people would prefer the one on the right to the one on the left

Look it's fine if you think this is dumb because plant based meat is fine anyway and people should just switch, but a lot of the discourse on this has the same energy as people who get mad at lab grown diamonds because the only way to show love is via environmental damage and unethical labor

The cities in the United States fall into 4 categories

- Acela

(1) The Adams administration was a corrupt mess that was actively being bribed by the Turkish government, it's not a typical municipal transition (2) NYC has more people than 1967 Israel, I'm guessing about the same as the enfranchised herrenvolk Israeli population

[extremely bad faith voice] smh the Desi stereotyping never ends 😔
November 21, 2025 at 9:23 PM
Well the zip code you're mentioning has quite a broad distribution, so I think it might be weighted up by the southern portions

I'm surprised you have this take instead of being mad that they haven't implemented the villager comparative advantage feature they've teased 😤

Minecraft community be like "I like getting roughly the same amount of content but faster, but I feel like them giving us 2x as much content would be better"

Like genuinely, can someone explain to me what it means to be familiar with this district?

Honestly one of the funniest things about the whole Prop 50 thing is the "Stop Sacramento's Power Grab" messaging, like I'm sorry you're not going to make the middle class small city of Sacramento seem intimidating
November 21, 2025 at 12:29 AM
Ok like I get there were some people saying this but the far more common take was that this would be true *relative to a counterfactual with a continued shutdown*. Ofc, we will never know, but I think cancelling Thanksgiving flights would have made these approvals decline more

Here's the city of New York and surrounding regions

The densest zip code in the state of Tennessee has about the same density as El Monte, California, which is, you know, a somewhat dense suburb (73rd percentile dense for California)

It's not just Boston, here's the same map for SF (whole city basically, and parts of Oakland) and stereotypically "no real urban core" LA (showing several different areas that are dense, but primarily the area west of downtown)
November 19, 2025 at 6:25 PM
Like for example, here's all zip codes in Boston that are denser than the densest Minneapolis zip code (55404, pm r=1km density of 6253/km²). It's more or less the entire city, including suburbs like Cambridge, Everett, Brookline, etc

Kevin Kiley keeps whining about this whole situation and like imo he should do less whining and work on his resume
November 18, 2025 at 11:05 PM
Personally, I think this is a great idea

I think about this every so often, like do you think that when coming up with this Jeffres was like "wow, I managed to work in that George Wallace reference I've been meaning to sprinkle somewhere"

(in my headcanon, that speech has become kind of a general catchall defense of war crimes the way Sherman's quotes are often used today)

🚨 Urban Stats 30.3.7 🚨

Two new features!

@spudwaffle.bsky.social has landed a change allowing side by side settings and maps (only present on desktop to make it easier to make maps in the mapper)

I added a feature so you can see the mean statistics for your friends!

Star Trek's slightly grimmer but still very optimistic Posadist vision of a unified and urbanist humanity rising from the ashes of the original sin of the 20th century is imo far better. Also gave us this:
