Obtention is a word? I don't think I have ever read that word before today.

The thing about Lewis is he was bad at the job, even taking into account that a lot of this mess was Bezos' fault. He should have known what to push back on, such as not lying that killing endorsement was his idea, putting that in the Post, and then not retracting when Bezos admitted his role.
Breaking — Will Lewis out at the Washington Post. He just sent this email to staff (shared with me by staffer):

Huh, not sure I entirely agree but yeah, I've seen this.
The right wing 10 year cultural delay phenomenon has them all using millennial therapyspeak right when the left has dropped all civility. Really funny times ahead

You know he heard it, they wouldnt have swiftly cut away if he kept smiling, you know he heard it and he reacted.
Vice President JD Vance gets roundly booed at the opening ceremony of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympics. "Those are a lot of boos for him, whistling jeering," says the presenter. US athletes receive a warm welcome from fans, though.

This MAGA sycophant is out here trying to claim the Obama ape video is a hoax and "Trump didn't post" it when the White House itself is admitting it's real, and that the backlash over the racist clip is nothing but "fake outrage."

"We're shutting down the special sham courts we built to make deportations much easier, because we're too dumb & mean to see the value of a sham effort; we expect this will make deportations easier" says most competent fascists of all time
Among (lots of) other things, this is going to flood the federal courts of appeals with cases in which the BIA might previously have cleaned up the IJ's messes.

When something like this happened in 2004, the circuit courts ... did not respond favorably to the government's positions in those cases.
🚨HOLY CRAP. The Trump admin just took a SLEDGEHAMMER to due process, largely eliminating the Board of Immigration Appeals process and MANDATING DISMISSAL of ALL appeals (which cost $1,000 thanks to OBBBA) filed after tomorrow unless a majority of the BIA votes to hear the case.

the thing is that "age of consent guy" was a very specific, well known, risible, and widely scorned type of guy well before metoo. knowledge of age of consent laws has been a creepy tell for as long as i've been alive. that this wasn't considered weird in elite circles doesn't change broader reality

one thing i have noticed is a lot of folks do not seem to understand the difference between a presidential election and 435+ legislative elections. i have seen any number of people say that you could subvert the outcome this november by targeting “swing states,” which does not make any sense.

We keep waiting for a big Andrew Jackson moment (tho I’d argue the Abrego Garcia stuff got basically there), but we are way past that: the trump Vance administration doesn’t need a big flashy scotus moment like that, they’re institutionalized defying courts left and right over big and small things

once again these things boil down to “is your group a bohemian cultural identity” or “is your group actually trying to do things?” and the key tell is whether your activity centers on policing of in-group behavior or whether it centers on, again, tangible goals

I honestly think this is now a good question to ask. When was the last time you saw an ad for coke? I remember them coming on all the time as a kid. Does the younger generation even hear about coke anymore? Probably but wouldn't surprise me if name recognition has dropped a percentage point or two.

Something I've highlighted over and over, Weiss has no idea how to actually manage a large group of people. Free Press was her baby and her people self selected for ideological commitment. This is a failure to pick her battles and will piss a bunch of people off for no reason.
“.. Weiss insists she does not want to cut ties with Attia over his links to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and sees it as giving in to the mob.”

I grew up in an era in which racism was much more out in the open, but only the fringiest politicians would have said anything near this explicit.
Trump: "Minnesota is a mess. There's something in the water up there. I won the 3 three times but I got no credit for it. It's a rigged state. Really rigged badly w/ the Somalians, and the Somalians & the theft. We gotta get 'em out, most of them. 92% don't work. Many of them drive Mercedes-Benzes."

As has been dubbed on here, we're are a year and change into "all stick, no carrot" as an electoral approach. A federal government that hates the country, backed by a political party too cowardly to stop that even in their own states/districts. & Trump is too disconnected from reality to change tack

It’s odd to me how people on both left and right refuse to believe that some random nutjob can off an important person despite it happening quite often in history
Guys the government didn’t kill MLK. Plenty of elements in the government wanted him dead but they couldn’t risk it.

A lot of suggestions Trump will tear it down the way he did the East Wing, but guys the Kennedy Center is Steel Frame, you cannot just tear that down and then rebuild it in 2 years. They'll likely just destroy the insides, plaster gold shit everywhere, but they aren't tearing the building down
Trump: "I have determined that the fastest way to bring The Trump Kennedy Center to the highest level of Success, Beauty, and Grandeur, is to cease Entertainment Operations for an approximately two year period of time, with a scheduled Grand Reopening that will rival and surpass anything."

“Trump demolishes many DC landmarks in an attempt to replace them with half-assed tributes to himself” would be an arc considered too obvious for many prestige TV writers.
He fucked up the ballroom so now he has to wreck something else. Replaying his bankruptcy arc.

So does anyone know why there are random equal signs (=) replacing random letters in these emails? Is this a formatting error or something?
/6 No, when society tells you to shun someone, be SKEPTICAL. Like Noam Chomsky. Noam Chomsky KNEW that it’s the dark forces of American imperialism that don’t want him to listen to a famous child rapist teach him about black people being inferior.

I hate to say this but one of the difficulties with making the 28 primaries about Biden is he'll likely be dead by then. 80 years old with cancer already spread to the bones.... technically possible but I'd think low odds, less than 5 percent.
The national press desperately misses having Biden around to beat up, so they are vowing to make the 2028 Dem primary all about Biden ... and having the gall to pretend that it's *voters* who want this.
