AND supporting your local library is super important! If you actually DO want books to be available to everyone, the library *already exists* and is staffed by the people who are deep in the trenches of fighting censorship! Supporting the library is doing actual good for your community!
TAPS SCREEN

For like the zillionth time: Libraries are FREE for you, but WE still get compensated for our work!!
Just saw someone claim that authors who want to be paid for their work are "class traitors" because we "only let the wealthy" read our books, and I think I need to go into the woods to scream into the night for a bit.

It's $5, not your first-born child! I need that $5 for health insurance!

Just called @magaziner.house.gov who voted for the resolution - so disappointing, if not surprising. Read a book about the New Deal, Rep. Magaziner.
The House of Representatives voted 285–98 in favor of a resolution condemning socialism.

86 Dems joined Republicans in supporting the measure, incl. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

If they're making it harder for nurses to afford graduate degrees and have already made it harder for nursing professionals to come to the US to work under visas, then who do they think will work the hospitals, the nursing homes, the outpatient clinics, the community health programs, etc?

Who?

In a year in which the VP argued that "America is not just an idea," it's worth returning to the Gettysburg Address, delivered on this day 162 years ago.

"We here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom."

Really difficult to overstate the fury one should feel that the GOP and institutions like the New York Times went all in on transphobia as some mortal threat to women and girls while covering up something like this.
When you read these Epstein emails, you start to understand why so many prominent conservatives are obsessed with checking the genitals of children. It's a big thing for them!

When I was 12 & walking to my violin lesson, a man in his 20s pulled his car over to ask what was in the case. I looked at him & said "A gun" but inside I was preparing to run 1/2 a block as fast as I could to the nearest house whose owners I knew. I have now spent 3/4 of my life thinking like this.
I want people to understand that in my youth, a youth that happened somewhere between the youth of Epstein, Trump, Maxwell, ex-Prince Andrew, et al & that of their victims, the term "jail bait" was framed as a compliment.

Can personally attest that this is true.
It's a miracle that schools function at all day-to-day, given the demands we make of school workers across the entire system relative to the resources we provide them to make good on our demands. It's a thing held together through a collective effort that puts the moon landing to shame.

The value of reading history is you know that in 1860 there were abolitionists who were so demoralized that they thought chattel slavery would be permanent. 5 years later those still alive had lived to see its end.

During the Civil War, more than 20% of Union soldiers were also foreign-born, mostly from Germany and Ireland. During World War I, approximately half a million immigrants were serving in the US military. “Foreigners have continued to serve in significant numbers since World War II.” #VeteransDay
In fact, immigrant service members fought in major conflicts since our country’s founding. “Hundreds of thousands of immigrants pledged to defend the United States with their lives in the Civil War, both World Wars, and conflicts like those in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq.” #VeteransDay
new from @tusk81.bsky.social:

Veteran’s Day can’t be properly observed without also noting the vast, heroic contributions of immigrant service members to the United States military.

Unfortunately, our nation has not always given its service members the respect they deserve.

Why has the government been closed at all if Senate Dems cave now? Didn't they say that they could not go along with throwing millions of people off health care?

What's materially changed? A *promise* is not action. ALSO fascists lie and I've been told by some Senate Dems that the GOP is fascist.
