The Price: A Queer Daughter of a Queer Mother - Electric Literature

This is a more poorly lit eye, but it was physically closer, so i was more willing to risk a slower shutter speed(1/500) to get the ISO down(450).

Great opportunity when it was a captive audience! (drinking from a feeder) 🪶

Will Stancil sucks and will never stop sucking so let me just inform you you can block him and never think about him more than 2x a year and then also if enough of us just block him then that frequency reduces by at least half and i promise you you are no less informed of a person for doing so

I'm sharing this because sharing an NYT story about this outweighs my dislike of the publication.

We have known for months because of data outside of Japan that this year's flu season was going to be bad but we have an HHS secretary that hates vaccination and so voila.
“New York City’s syndromic surveillance system, which collects information about every patient who visits an emergency room, reported 9,857 visits for “influenza-like illness” last week. That was higher than in the worst weeks of the 2017-18 or 2024-25 flu seasons, both ranked as “high severity”

You can do a lot locally with a dedicated group of 15 to 40 people. Regular people should be thinking at that scale rather than at the scale of thousands.

The lengthy article suggests some of the reasons that Trump fears exposure from the Epstein records.

I feel this way about "van life" and "tiny houses."

Capitalism trying to transform the broken promises made to Millennials and younger into hip, fun lifestyles, instead of acknowledging *their* parents were homeowners at 25 and something terrible has changed that trajectory.

If you want the crowder beans (like black eyed peas) by new years basically today is your last chance to order and even then I can’t promise. I’ll ship them tomorrow but then it’s in the hands of the USPS

I also only have around 20 of these left, so they’ll sell out soon too

UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE NOW.
"I don't have an additional $900 lying around…”

Millions of middle-class Americans who have ACA health plans are facing soaring premiums in 2026 — and tough coverage choices after the new rates kick in Jan. 1. And it often falls to women to figure out a family's insurance puzzle.”
As insurance prices rise, women puzzle through coverage options for their families
Figuring out the insurance options for families often falls to women. Some say they're delaying marriage, taking side jobs, and putting their kids on Medicaid as premium prices shoot up in 2026.

Oh, and incidentally. Those other writers, they are not your competition. They are your colleagues, and the kinder, more generous you are to them the better things will go for you.
2/2 "fame" is not evenly temporally distributed; some people are hot out of the gate, some build over time, some get hot years or even decades after their debut. Every writer you meet, "famous" or not, will remember how you treated them, their friends, and why. Treat everyone as having value.

PRO TIP ALT TEXT

I think the best way to do it when you're writing alt text, is to describe the image as you would if talking to a friend on the phone who can't see the image.

So, if the image is someone applauding and that's the point of the image...

Black Trans Texas Connection aka Thrive House is a pretty well known scam to Texas organizers. There is no "shelter". It is one dude that pops up every couple years to separate ne'er do wells from their cash and dox anyone that calls him out.
