I published a short and quick primer on how local law enforcement, mostly sheriffs, can collaborate with ICE. I hope it's useful -- I also would love to know what people are seeing in their community.

In the greater story of Minneapolis’ resistance to ICE, one chapter absolutely belongs to the punks organizing at every level. They’re observing, fundraising, running supplies, opening their spaces, coordinating, etc.

A story for @rollingstone.com. Thanks to everyone who spoke on the record.
Meet the Minneapolis Punks Fighting ICE
People in the DIY music scene are using the community organizing tactics they learned by putting on shows to battle ICE.

In terms of paper waste, maybe, but ebooks aren'tthe solution. Speaking as a librarian, ebooks are the bane of my fucking existence. I can buy 10 MMPB for the cost of 1 restricted access temporary license ebook. See:
bsky.app/profile/book...
Mass market paperbacks that were unsold within 90 or 120 days had their covers stripped (as proof of destruction) then were pulped. Up to 50% of the print run would be destroyed this way. Horribly wasteful: we're MUCH better off with ebooks as the cheap/disposable reading format of choice.
The mass market paperback, light in the hand and on the wallet, once filled airport bookstores and supermarket media aisles. You may never buy a new one again.

Please consider subscribing.
Are you tired of journalism by parachuting east coasters?

Sick of stories with clickbait headlines that lack context and reporting to explain what's really happening?

Want stories that illuminate the Northwest without bombarding you constantly for your attention?

Welcome to the Western Edge.

When Biden was elected president, so many people just went to sleep. They stayed that way through his presidency and are just now waking up…If Trump is prevented from usurping a third term, will the masses go back to sleep?

After I was inspired by #metoo to publicly identify my abuser, admin forced me out of my public school classroom. The district sent a group of 5 ppl 2 remove me: 1 fml security guard, 2 fml admins, an armed fml cop, and a male security guard. The men who shut down #metoo had lots of help from women…

I agree that concentration camp is the correct term for sites that imprison immigrants. I also find it interesting that the term concentration camp fell into disuse during Biden’s presidency while the camps themselves remained…

Most of the people currently abusing kids aren’t listed in the Epstein files…and those are the abusers you can actually do something about.

A reporter reached out to me in June 2025 for a story they were working on re ICE in LA. It took me about a week to return their message. By the time I did, the reporter told me that he had moved on because that was “over” now. Meanwhile, ICE was still here and things were getting worse!
Swear to god, ICE could just announce they're leaving a city but not leave and the media will just stop covering that city completely even though ICE never left.

It's what ICE and the media did with LA and they're doing it with Minneapolis too

The way that so many people post about Epstein and CSA makes me want to leave social media. So much of it isn’t naming or shaming abusers. So much of it, if not most of it, is done at the expense of survivor well being.

On my first day as a student teacher w LBUSD, I approached my master and teacher/department head to ask a question. He had his email open and was corresponding with another male employee about how lucky he was get a “hot” student teacher. This problem is everywhere…
the Epstein files are really devastating because they remind me of how many girls and women miss out on professional opportunities, mentorship and careers because of how many powerful, rich and influential men only view girls and women — and interactions with them — through the lens of sex

Washington Post is shuttering its book section, part of the ongoing war against literacy & knowledge.

We at Current Affairs want to pick up the slack by expanding book reviews. Writers: pitch us anytime! And if you subscribe/donate we'll use the funding to commission book coverage.

Some great news. My hybrid memoir IN OPEN COUNTRY will now be published by Little, Brown. It’s about freedom of movement and stillness in the US, and the ways capitalism & settler colonialism have shaped (and continue to shape) the answer to who has either across time. I also do a lot of walking.
