DHS describing its threat to immigrants — to leave their homes in America now for $3000 or be forced to leave, ripped away from families by secret masked police, put in concentration camps — as a "Holiday Deal" is the kind of dystopian shit that would be too on the nose if you put it in a novel

Also insane she attributes outrage over her actions to “slow news week” … when in the last year has there been a fucking slow news week lol. Especially now? admin wants to invade Venezuela, the president is all over the Epstein files….
Bari Weiss just sent this Christmas Eve email to the CBS News staff about "building trust," which includes her tripling down on spiking the CECOT piece "to make sure it's comprehensive and fair."

One CBS staffer tells me: "She really has no idea how insulting she comes across."

This will affect 9 million veterans and their dependents, and has been a long time coming: It was outlined in Project 2025.

Also! the 1924 bill was called the Johnson-Reed Act…. named for Klansman Albert Johnson in the House of Representatives!!!

The Second Klan often tried to take credit for the bill and its racial quotas, and for good reason: a lot of its members were in office!
In our deep dive into Stephen Miller, we report that Miller praised Coolidge's 1924 restrictions even though an unpublished history of Miller's ancestry authored by his grandmother explicitly talked about how it closed the door on people like Miller's relatives:

Of historic proportions:

Exactly this: the administration’s concentration camps should be a howling, daily outrage, a scandal of historic proportions.
Bari’s complaint was “there’s nothing new here” and while that’s untrue it’s also irrelevant

“we intentionally sent people to be tortured in a hellhole and bragged about it and The Hague is too good for everyone involved” is a story that simply cannot be told enough

In my book I tell story of grad student who was training as therapist at Oklahoma State University Psychological Resources Center, giving bargain-rate therapy to working-class locals.

Antifa exposed him as influential neo-Nazi who went to Charlottesville rally.

The school then let him graduate.

New from my newsletter: I pile through the responses to the recent antisemitic attack in Australia, all of which repeated the same policies that have failed to keep Jews safe and have been used to attack movements for justice. We need solidarity not police.

The movement is tearing itself apart in a silent war over Kirk's legacy.

Bari Weiss saw that famous Malcolm X quote - “If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing” - and saw a business model
Her whole thing is “No, it is the executives who are actually oppressed.”

Once you view any decision she makes through that lens, everything makes sense, including how she’s gotten to where she is.
In 2022, Bari Weiss ran this viral first-person piece by a top Levi’s executive. She claimed she was hounded out of the company because of her vocal stance on COVID restrictions.

There are no quotes from the company. Or her colleagues.

Not even a “no comment.”

Our latest installment in our listener-favorite “Who the Hell?” series is out. @oldmanweldon.bsky.social helped us retrace the life and career of Bill Maher, one of corporate media’s favorite “centrist” types.

People really hate this guy. We tried to explain why.

Also: she argues segment didn’t advance reporting already done by NYT … but that’s the point of TV news sometimes? More powerful to have footage of interviews than quotes
