3 yrs ago I started writing a book that is in stores TODAY. It's narrative nonfiction, anti-fascist spy thriller set in Trump era. It's timely as hell & I'm proud of it.

A thread of what people are saying abt it & why I hope you'll help make it a bestseller www.simonandschuster.com/books/To-Cat...
around this same time the NYT described Ida B. Wells as a “slanderous and nasty-minded mulattress”
“These sneaking and cowardly Sicilians, the descendants of bandits and assassins, who have transported to this country the lawless passions, the cutthroat practices and the oathbound societies, are to us a pest without mitigation. Our own rattlesnakes are as good citizens as they.”NYT editorial 1891

Trump loves to throw the term "antifa" around whenever there's a coordinated act of resistance against him. But understanding what it actually means, and how its tactics can be scaled up to resist an increasingly fascist government, matters more than ever. @letsgomathias.bsky.social breaks it down.

He literally says in this clip that ICE will keep in Minnesota “quick reaction forces” — a military term — to go after “agitators.” Remember that those on the ground in MPLS have spent more than a week trying to tell everyone that Trump’s prior “deescalation” was a ruse and ICE is still operational
Homan: "Operation Metro Surge is ending. In the next week, we're going to deploy the officers here on detail back to their home stations or to other areas of the country where they're needed."

“We had whistles, they had guns”
Every photo from Minneapolis looks like this. Cops decked out with guns and full tac gear facing off against people in bathrobes, parkas, and sweatpants armed only with whistles and cell phones.

Yet every verified MAGA chode on X dutifully calls it a riot or violent insurrection.

The right casts “antifa” as a centralized enemy, but it’s a decentralized network that’s exposed pro-Trump extremist groups for years. Tomorrow we speak with To Catch a Fascist author Christopher Mathias. Yesterday, Jay Kuo covered DHS expanding detention and communities fighting back.

The right loves to throw around the term “antifa” as though it represents a centralized leftist movement.

"This axiom you hear a lot on the left,'We protect us' means you can't rely on your institutions to protect you. So it is up to you to organize with your neighbors, to show up for the most marginalized. Minneapolis is such an amazing demonstration of that."
