Okay, it's time for a proper intro thread, not just the one I whacked up there during the workday.

I'm Adele, I'm a law librarian by day and romance author by night. I talk occasionally about a bunch of stuff but a lot about books.

I'm about to talk about my books!
1. LLM-generated code tries to run code from online software packages. Which is normal but
2. The packages don’t exist. Which would normally cause an error but
3. Nefarious people have made malware under the package names that LLMs make up most often. So
4. Now the LLM code points to malware.
LLMs hallucinating nonexistent software packages with plausible names leads to a new malware vulnerability: "slopsquatting."

Im sure there will be no issues there at all.

Passersby are “unreliable”? You mean they don’t voluntarily take time out of whatever they’re doing to go up to a car that’s not theirs, that is probably tracking everything that happens, and fix the unanticipated problem of the door being left open?
“Because riders and passersby can be unreliable, Waymo pays workers in Los Angeles $20 or more for rescuing a robotaxi by closing a door, summoning help through an app called Honk that is like an Uber for towing companies.”
When robot taxis get stuck, a secret army of humans comes to the rescue
Waymo robotaxis get stranded when a passenger leaves the door open. Tow truck operators can get paid $22 to close a door and set them free again.

My favorite kind of marketing copy:

My [56M] cat [2F] keeps appearing at my next-door neighbor’s [53F] apartment. Trouble is, I can see why the cat likes her. I like her too, but she’s really prickly and private. I’m kind of using the cat as an excuse to spend some time with her. AITA?

I'm here willing to read anything someone puts together that details how we can get from here to there

I'm all for universal healthcare. Tell me how we get there.

Look, nobody likes her. In any direction. That said: Wow lady, you are just speedrunning your way into malicious compliance. People not liking you is reason enough to do nothing in your favor, but people actively despising you is what drives them to come up with creative ways to undermine you.
In her memo pushing back against the massive backlash over her decision to hold a story on 60 Minutes, editor in chief Bari Weiss insults staff at CBS News by implying - with no specifics - that the news, which they help report, lacks integrity. Good luck leading them now. https://loom.ly/6_Bzgt8

Cuban's argument is the argument of someone who doesn't want to be convinced. He's done this before, so presumably he has been offered reading material that he hasn't read.

He doesn't want to hear that he's part of the problem.

My [53F] neighbor [56M] is utterly charming—which is a problem. I have more than one reason to keep men at arm’s length. But his cat [2F] found her way into my apartment. Now I am in a feline time-share. I don’t want him to get the wrong idea, but I can’t seem to resist either him or the cat. AITA?

In the Buck household, there are two TVs. Mr. B just came upstairs to where I've been mainlining Christmas stuff for the better part of today.

He said, "I'm finally watching a Christmas movie."

In unison, we both said, "Die Hard."

Bending your institution to meet the prejudices of your dumbest, meanest students is a surefire way to destroy a university.

Now any student can just scrawl “the Bible says this is wrong” on any test and skate to an A at the Oklahoma Football Outlet and Diploma Factory.

The document says, "Educators must learn how they can use AI to simplify their working lives."

Now you are demanding teachers use "A.i."

Educators don't need to use "A.i." Educators need to be paid more. Not to enrich corporations by using untested, dangerous "A.i." products.

So I am going to say something about romance as a genre.

A lot of people think that romance is ignorable because <insert thing they think about romance> and romance authors don't count because <insert thing they think about romance>.

This thread is not about whether you have to like romance.

Many people are posting close-reads of the gay hockey romance show and book series, and calling out solid critique right now. Romance deserves good-faith criticism.

“You are all mindless fanatics with no critical thinking skills who do not appreciate true art” is the worst-faith criticism.
