Remember, in totalitarian states, among the first people to be silenced are the artists, the poets, the writers. There's a reason for that.

Be that reason.

If you do art, keep doing art. Do it with as much passion as you can muster. Express yourself.
This is your reminder that writing is a political action.
The thing is, when she described the people in the files as "a bunch of sick fucks," I got the impression she was pulling her punches. Which suggests the people in the files are *seriously* sick fucks.
Vermont US Representative Becca Balint being interviewed by Drop Site News shortly after reviewing more, unreleased Epstein files saying
"They're all a bunch of sick fucks"

One of the reasons we are so deeply fucked is the news media won't bother to report on just how completely fucking insane this is. China will terminate hockey in Canada? Just Trump being Trump.

We should sue The News for criminal negligence.
Trump, in the middle of his latest unhinged Truth Social screed, claims that if Canada makes a trade deal with China, "the first thing China will do is terminate ALL Ice Hockey being played in Canada, and permanently eliminate The Stanley Cup."

My ebike got me back on a bike, helped me get further (and especially up bigger hills) than I could under my own steam when I was well, helped me rehab after short periods of illness, and makes cycling for both leisure and transport far more accessible to me when my chronic illness symptoms allow.
It really annoys me that the moral panic over e-bikes obscures the incredible impact they have had for disabled people.
This. For the disabled they are a vital tool, and without mine, I am housebound. The inherent ableism infuriates me, especially since I am a careful rider. In every incident I have been in, and there are very few, I was the victim not the cause. Every time.

Representative Stansbury does NOT mince words. We need to see a LOT more members of Congress stand up with her and show the same level of integrity.
This morning, Ghislaine Maxwell blanket pleaded the 5th during her deposition in the Epstein case. What’s the message? She seems to be making it clear to Donald Trump that he can buy her silence with clemency.

Not on our watch. Here is the latest. ⬇️

It's not an illogical stance to take, if you are pro-nanny state. But please - if we are going to take a heavy hand on pot regulation and federal taxing *because it is harmful* - then let me know when we do the same for auto use. Tax by mileage, "on the scale of dollars...not cents," per the piece.

Happy birthday to Carole King, an amazing singer-songwriter with a lovely voice. Today she turned...no, wait, that's not possible...is it? I mean, 84 years old? Surely not.

Doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore?

A good romance story is a good story. A good fantasy story is a good story. A good mystery story is a good story. A good western story is a good story.

Any good genre story is...has to be, right down at the bones...a good story.

Folks who dismiss genre fiction don't understand the craft.
Generally speaking, the minute you see the word “Fabio” attached to an article about romance other than as history, you can throw the entire thing into the garbage. It’s a sneer, designed as communication from one person who thinks romance is stupid to another.
fuck this lady, fuck the nyt reporter, fuck all of this. fuck amazon for introducing the KU page read model that makes this possible, fuck our tech overlords.

"I like the precision" and "I love that process of finding the scene." That pretty much encompasses everything I love about #photography. It's not so much that Roger Deakins is a genius, it's that he just wants to get it right.

Today is the anniversary of the Bonfire of the Vanities.
No, not the novel; the actual event in 1497, when the Church gathered & set fire to "objects that might tempt one to sin." Books, musical instruments, art, even fancy clothes and cosmetics.

So dress up today, do art, make music, read books.

From the very beginning, this campaign has been different. Thoughtful, clever, personal, inspired, open, and inclusionary. Let's hope it serves as a model for more progressive candidates.

Also? This comic? I'd eat this up with a spoon.
it came and was the only one I kept! way to make political mailers actually fun

Scotland has passed a law that all new buildings must install ‘swift bricks’ which are hollowed out bricks to help nesting swifts and other endangered birds! Swifts are especially endangered because so many chimneys now have chimney caps. Swifts return to the same nesting spot year after year.

Two years ago yesterday, Trump was acquitted in his very first impeachment.

Susan Collins: "I believe that the president has learned from this case. The president has been impeached. That’s a pretty big lesson."

Susan Collins is still in office. So is Trump.
