these people are literal nazis
Former UVA president Jim Ryan, who resigned over the summer due to pressure from the Trump Administration, just shared this 12-page letter with the Faculty Senate, detailing his experience with the Board of Visitors and DOJ.

It's a surreal--and troubling--read.

Matt Gaetz raped a 17 year old child after exploiting her healthcare needs for money and this is how the NY Times is framing it.

"ended up having sex with powerful men"

Literally whitewashing child rape.

Corporate media is dead. Stop subscribing to it. This is beyond saving.

teams that could have made revisions to build fundable applications will never get the chance to be mentored and grow because this administration hates knowledge

this is how we never end cancer

this is how we never end HIV

this is how we never end any fucking thing except ourselves

Just got an email from my SRO for the study section that was missed in October. Good news is that they are trying to reschedule ASAP (Dec/Jan). The bad news is that CSR is mandating that only the the top third (not half) of applications will get discussed for the next 2 rounds.

it’s so wild that program officers, some of the most experienced and knowledgeable civil servants, have been thrown into the fucking fire.

strip me of my funding, sure.

placing POs on administrative leave with no explanation?

things are somehow still getting worse.

enjoy destroying the biomedical research enterprise

god the stupidest, most racist people really do have the keys right now
“The prohibited activities would include joint research, co-authorship on papers, and advising a foreign graduate student or postdoctoral fellow. The language is retroactive, meaning any interactions during the previous 5 years could make a scientist ineligible for future federal funding.”

We have taken products off the market for being far less dangerous. We also have a clear signal that all the money we’re dumping into AI could be better spent addressing a serious mental health crisis.
Panera’s moderately caffeinated lemonade was loosely associated with 2 deaths before it was taken off market.

This article alone has 4 examples of ChatGPT encouraging young people to commit suicide, and OpenAI’s own public stats estimate over a million users discuss suicide with ChatGPT each week.
I fully believe in the corporate death penalty and believe we would be a better world if OpenAI lost its corporate charter and was forcibly dissolved.

The Feds arent going to leave LA until at least 2028. The city is obligated to allow ICE / DHS / CBP to operate within the city due to 28 Olympics being a National Special Security Event (NSSE). Fascists are not going anywhere. No one is coming to save us except ourselves.

god bless data scientists for having the numbers and analyzing them

this administration will lie to you at every turn
New data: CBPP analyzed USDA’s contingency fund spending plan & found it is only going to release 2/3 of the funding they committed to in court filings, cutting families’ SNAP benefits far more than necessary, violating USDA’s own regulations & shortchanging millions of families.

it’s so wild that it just seems like they’re never going to leave

and they’re gonna do this sort of creep across the country and it’ll just become normalized

none of this is normal
Attention has (justly) gone to the abuses in Chicago but the assaults in Los Angeles never ended. The military left but they were guarding building. DHS paramilitaries remain active in L.A. it's bad.
Don’t think ppl understand the terror the Feds are unleashing on the streets of LA right now. Roving patrols targeting vulnerable individuals. It’s horrible.

There’s no one coming to save us except ourselves.

it’s impossible for anyone to hate trans people after they meet me 😇
I am taking particular pleasure in the complete collapse of trans-as-unbeatable-wedge-issue narrative this morning. It might be an 80-20 issue in voters minds, but it has to be on voters minds to matter. The results in VA demonstrate that it is very much not on voters minds.

critical thinking abt certain ideas only
2/ As a former college professor, I now believe college isn't as important as I once thought it was. What's important is critical thinking, and the universities try to suppress that.

leadership is so reliant on their algorithms and echo chambers. if they spent ANY time in their homes and with their constituencies, they’d understand that these politics can win anyfuckingwhere. you just have to give people the option.
The entire right-wing propaganda machine came after Zohran Mamdani.

The president and his allies came after him.

Democratic leaders, by and large, did not have his back until the last minute.

He still won, turning out historic numbers and inspiring young voters.

His politics can win anywhere.
