With Trump very transparently saying that the invasion of Venezuela was to take their oil, let's dive into oil markets. TL;DR - it's not at all clear to me that Trump or the people around him have any coherent long term strategy.

This is an amazing story. Guaranteed 14% returns ain’t capitalism, and doesn’t drive efficiency. But framing utilities as either rapacious scoundrels or pure minded public servants with no nuance in between doesn’t lead to good policy either. insideclimatenews.org/news/2612202...

I strongly condemn President Trump’s unlawful military action in Venezuela. Maduro is an illegitimate ruler, but the President cannot send U.S. forces into another country and seize its leader without Congressional authorization.

The legal justification the WH gave us for attacking Venezuelan boats in int’l waters without Congressional approval was weak, and exposes the WH and military staff to domestic and international criminal prosecution. They have not even sought to justify strikes within Venezuela.

ACA tax credits expired on 12/31. Trump is not complying w Epstein release but what's come out is damning. Dead bodies in the Carribbean. Fragile peace in Ukraine and the Middle East. So House floor time next week will be dedicated to... rolling back shower head and energy efficiency standards.

John Roberts has the power to fix the court. But he has to first acknowledge that he has a problem. And apparently he's not yet ready to start that journey. Which is really dangerous; a nation that loses faith in the rule of law ultimately loses the rule of law.

My predecessor tried to do this with the 2017 Trump tax cut bill. So yeah, try that trick again, GOP. I double dog dare you.

True. This is also the TL;DR of a future HBS case study analyzing the logic of, and fallout from Musk buying Twitter.
Trumpers have a howling void of angry insecurity where a soul should be. Unchecked power tastes like ashes in their mouth because they thought when they got it everyone would be forced to like and admire them even though they’re irredeemable assholes. But people still treat them like assholes.

I have yet to meet a small business owner who wants to pay more for imported goods thanks to tariffs, wants it to be harder to hire/retain talent thanks to xenophobic immigration policies and try to sell things in the face of collapsing consumer sentiment.

Worth repeating this with every new Epstein document drop. The party of Denny Hastert is the party of Jim Jordan is the party of Matt Gaetz is the party of Donald Trump. Looking the other way and protecting child predators from the law is their brand.
